And yes, your being overweight affects me. Overweight people require more health services and if you are uninsured, I will be paying for that.

Which would be equally true of every single potentially unhealthy habit or lifestyle choice anyone makes. Strangely enough, I don't ever see this same logic applied to people's drinking, or choice to ride a motorcycle, or the hideous strain a lot of athletes inflict on their bodies.

I once had that conversation with a coworker. I don't think I convinced her, but at least I shut her up.

da

tbh I would be fine with those people paying more for insurance too. It's just basic common sense that someone who engages in risky behavior or unhealthy lifestyle choices is putting themselves at more risk for health problems than people who don't do those things.

Your car insurance payments go up if you're the cause of an accident because you're considered to be more of a liability. Why shouldn't health insurance work the same way?

I have no idea where you are, but charging people who cause self-inflicted injury or illness (be it obesity, smoking, drinking/drug-related problems etc.) is always brought up when it comes to health service funding.

Your choices to e.g. ride motorcyles or participate in any other dangerous activity is already factored into your insurance premiums for those activities.
