Well, in LJ you had to go through pages and pages of a community, on Tumblr you have to do exactly the same in the tags while seeing off topic stuff (I'll never forget Bucky the dog, which showed every time I went into the Bucky tag) and personal tumblrs aren't always coherently tagged.

In LJ there was the issue with locked and deleted post, in tumblr the issue is name changes and linked instead of reblogged deleted posts.

And on AO3 if there isn't a good tag wrangler active most stuff is impossible to find. And there's the issue with people non-tagging, over-tagging and miss-tagging that makes impossible to find some things.
And searching through pages and pages is a must just like FF.

And I don't see a big change in the cliques in any site.

So... how has fandom really changed?

bucky the dog sounds more interesting in whatever the fandom bucky is.

All I could think of is a reenactment of TWS with dogs dressing up as Steve and Bucky, haha!

That would be funny xD
The one I mentioned is just a french bulldog called Bucky. He's adorable so I never put those post on ignore, he's just the only non-infuriating example of non-related post on tags that I could think.

This. It even grew in bigger numbers as soon as the refugees from LJ migrated to Tumblr. Fandom feels like, to me, that you have to have the same interests and hopefully you'll be accepted and have people like you in order to join your club. Those ilk would rather squash a bug than to converse with you, since not everyone's going to be your best friend.

Nope. Not by a long shot. Tumblr's no different than LJ in a sense that you still have your cliques, the hunting for a specific page/topic as you've mentioned, and your Social Justice Parade (then again, that's everywhere online, such as forums).

Fandom itself hasn't changed much, but the nature of sharing and viewing content has changed a lot and many people (including myself) find it harder to stay active as a result. :/
