What, have you not been following the x-books at all?

It seems so - but, I haven't read this. If the "claim" is to start with a new team with no previous knowledge needed, then I do understand the complaint.

I don't know if they ever claimed the new book was supposed to be total clean break with no prior knowledge needed.

No, nor do I...but the secret sort of seems to imply it? In an case, it IS sort of bad writing if you don't, though.

I think the op was just excited there was an all x-women book.

Well that just sucks, really :(

All their #1s are indeed supposed to be readable for newcomers. I haven't read this one, but if it is that confusing, yeah, the OP has a legitimate point there.

unless it's a title like runaways vol 1, which was basically a bunch original characters with no real ties to the rest of the marvel universe, it's going to be hard to find a #1 that doesn't deal with prior continuity in some way.

Of course it deals with previous continuity but they try to do it in a way where everything you absolutely need to know is presented in the story. They are actually quite successful in many of the #1s I've read.

do they explain everything almost a decade old? because that's what the op's asking here, wondering who sublime and karima are, and stuff.

It is completely possible that the OP had unrealistic expectations about how much detail she would be given right off the bat regarding everyone, about being told about things that came before but had no bearing to the book at hand, and/or mistook current mysteries for things that had already happened.

That said, something like Jubilee is a vampire should have been addressed in the beginning. (Not how she became one, because that's not relevant, though.) Most recent launches either explain powers on-panel early on or have a cast page that lists the characters' powers. I think the only new books I've read that didn't do that were Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers.

I'm like 99% sure the beginning of most, if not all marvel comicbooks, there's usually a little paragraph on the very first page explaining what's going on and why happened previously.

Currently Buck Barnes:Winter Soldier is the only one I'm reading - but yes, that one has it, and so did the ones I used to read back in the day.

THIS. Majorly facepalming my way through this secret.
