I cracked a tooth some time ago and now it's rotting. But I don't have the four grand it is going to take to yank it out and get an implant.

The most I have in savings is a few hundred dollars. And I don't have any dental insurance. (I just have basic health.)

I don't know what to do. Everyone I know is broke and there is no way a bank will give me a loan that big.

I wish I could yank out this tooth, put it under my pillow and have the tooth fairy give me four grand for it.

It sucks being a broke adult.

Just get it pulled. Wait on a replacement. Or hey, just let it hang out in your head rotting and infecting everything. That definitely won't cause more teeth to go bad!

Or give them a heart attack.

Get a copay plan. They'll usually cost about $300-400 a year and will kick in the following month. Won't pay for everything obviously, but it should at least knock the $4k down to $2k which - while still ridiculous - is a whole lot better than the full amount.

What are they planning on charging you for btw? Extraction + implant + crown?

Dental college. Get a student who's doing their residency.

You might be able to turn to the internet for this, start a gofundme or something similar. You might think it won't work but you'd be amazed at the things people get funded online.

And honestly I can empathize with this, I don't have dental either and it's SO EXPENSIVE to get dental work done but you don't want to live with the alternative either, it can be very painful to live with those sorts of infections in your mouth.

I'm in a similar situation w/ dental care. Not going to go into deets, but yeah, you've got my sympathies.

If you can get it pulled, just get the damn thing pulled. You can live without a tooth, even if it's a front tooth and you're going to look like a hillbilly. Then later when you've saved up enough or gotten dental insurance or whatever, you can get a bridge/dentures/idk what they do for missing teeth.

But seriously, don't leave it to rot if you can help it. It can lead to serious complications. (Serious as in losing your jaw or dying.)

You definitely need to get it pulled sooner rather than later, no matter what happens after.

I second finding a dental school and/or looking into dental coverage (with the latter, just make sure the terms will benefit you on this).

Getting a bridge may be an option and will probably be cheaper than an implant, although I think only an implant will keep the bone from receding over the long run, but maybe that's something you can save up for after having the tooth pulled. You need to talk to a dentist about options.

I'd just get it pulled. Can't you get an implant later? But a rotting tooth is no good, and in some cases, an infection can be quite dangerous. Get it taken out.

Talk to your dentist (or if you don't have a regular dentist, whatever the cheapest one near you is) and tell them that there is no way for you to come up with the full $4000, but you're willing to work with them and pay on an installment plan. Odds are that they can work something out for you (and might even drop the price--I know a guy who went to a walk-in clinic for some sort of medical test and got them to drop the price by 75% because he was paying cash and the people were like "oh yeah, we just charge as much as the insurance companies are willing to pay, we'll totally give you a deal").

Otherwise, the dental school option is actually a really good idea if you can find one nearby.

if you're in the usa come down to mexico

a decent private dentist can get it done for that much

the medical and dental care costs in the usa are frightening
