Re: I'm so excited for you
In a bit of a reverse, I am wanting to take a trip to NY and Washington DC in 2016 but can't seem to get anyone else interested in it. :( And this is the first trip I have ever planned (to the biggest city I have ever been), so I am having a hard time with it. I don't want to go by myself but I can't seem to motivate my sister to save money up.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-08 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)FWIW I'm kind excited for your trip, lol. Just because you seem so excited about it. Is that weird? Sorry if that's weird.
(also, free pizza is a p good motivation for many, many things)
Re: I'm so excited for you
And thanks, at least someone else is excited!

If you're not planning on a specific event, I'd recommend late April/May or September/October. Those are my favorite walking around the city times. Tribeca Film Festival is in April every year and fairly reasonably priced. (we also ended up getting 5 free movie tickets last year just by waiting in line)
Re: I'm so excited for you
Well, I know hotels are not cheap but I would like to stay around $300 a night. Cheaper the better as long as the hotel is clean and in a safe area. The only thing for sure I know I will be seeing is Lion King on Broadway in NYC. Basically the whole reason this idea started. There are various museums I want to see as well. I'll try and get a list of stuff by Friday!
In DC, I want to go to the National Zoo and Museum of Natural History.
Re: I'm so excited for you
(Anonymous) 2015-02-10 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)I don't normally stay at hotels in NYC (I live close enough to go home at any point or I have friends who I will crash with that live 10 minutes from the city) but a friend of mine stayed at this really quaint boutique hotel in Chelsea with a rooftop terrace with a view of the Empire State Building. It was great because we went to Union Square earlier and bought some great wine and sat up there in the view of the Empire State Building.
I lucked out and found a hotel in DC for $114/night so it will be much cheaper than NYC.
When you really start planning things, I can give more ideas (walk past the New York Public Library because of Ghostbusters. Check out Midtown Comics. Visit the Strand. See Soho and visit three of my favorite chocolate stores. Ride the Staten Island Ferry.)
Re: I'm so excited for you
These are some places I have down so far for NYC.
-Jewish Heritage Museum
-Museum of Moving Image
-American Museum of Natural History
-Bronx Zoo
-Minskoff Theatre (Lion King showing)
Any suggestions for other places to go would be awesome. I am making a list and mapping them out on Google maps as well. Also, hotel suggestions. I think I will eventually post about this on general chat on F!S to get more ideas as well.

Re: I'm so excited for you
(Anonymous) 2015-02-08 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)It was really nice to just be able to choose what I would do, when I wanted to do it, and I was able to see and do a lot more things than I (most likely) would have done had I traveled with someone. (And no shopping which is what most of my trip would have consisted of if I had traveled with my sister..)
