I'm so excited for you

(Anonymous) 2015-02-08 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
To put a spin on "what's up, FS":

What's something going on in your life that other people seem to be way more excited about than you?

Ummmm. My second cousin's birthday? I am only going so my cousin doesn't hold it over my head all year. Also, free pizza.

In a bit of a reverse, I am wanting to take a trip to NY and Washington DC in 2016 but can't seem to get anyone else interested in it. :( And this is the first trip I have ever planned (to the biggest city I have ever been), so I am having a hard time with it. I don't want to go by myself but I can't seem to motivate my sister to save money up.

NAYRT

FWIW I'm kind excited for your trip, lol. Just because you seem so excited about it. Is that weird? Sorry if that's weird.

(also, free pizza is a p good motivation for many, many things)

It better be all the pizza I can eat! I WANT ALL THE PIZZA!

And thanks, at least someone else is excited!

I know you've mentioned this multiple times about wanting to go. Have you looked into maybe doing guided tours? This way you're not by yourself the whole time and still can do things on your own.

Well, I know most of what I want to do. I just got to make lists, figure out how much time/money they will take, and then figure out how many days in each place I'll need to stay.

If you need any help, let me know. I live in the suburbs of NYC and I've been to DC many times.

If it helps, going to London all by myself was the best holiday I've ever had. (At the time it was the largest city I had ever been in. Also the first time I traveled to another country on my own.)

It was really nice to just be able to choose what I would do, when I wanted to do it, and I was able to see and do a lot more things than I (most likely) would have done had I traveled with someone. (And no shopping which is what most of my trip would have consisted of if I had traveled with my sister..)

Well, I am too nervous of a person to travel alone. I'd just panic and it up crying in the middle of Times Square. ;_; I need someone more nercous to make me feel confidant.

I have a sister in law that I've come to like very much. She's just announced that she's pregnant. Everyone in the family is very excited for her.

This is not a bad thing.

What many in the family do not know and that I do is that my SIL has a number of health issues that stand a high chance of putting her life at risk. Not to mention that it's up in the air whether or not the child will make it to term.

I want to be happy for her. I hope this turns out the absolute best. But I can't get excited yet. I'm too damn worried about the other possibilities.

I'm sorry. That must make it difficult. :/

Nothing currently, but when I was in college people older than me acted like they'd never been in college themselves (they had, for the most part) or met anyone who was in college (they had kids/nieces/nephews who'd been before me). You'd think I was at Hogwarts. Cue questions asking if I was looking forward to exams (uh... yeah, that's right), if I had homework (maybe this was just my major, but I had more deadlines than homework per se) and so on. It actually made it difficult when I was failing a class, because everyone would want to talk about it and it was the last thing I wanted to talk about. Even once all that drama was over and I liked school, that didn't mean I didn't enjoy my breaks.

My (hopefully) impending acceptance into grad school. I'm mostly terrified of everything. My parents keep trying to drum up excitement but it's been sluggish for me.

The possibility of a visit from my Internet best friend of many years, whom I've never met in person. He's stoked, the other people he's planning to visit are all kinds of stoked, and I'm just kind of "Okay, cool." I am pretty sure that most of my lack of glee is just that it's refusing to sink in that this might actually happen, though.

I dropped out of college and am switching to a tech school. I have my assiociates and my grades were decent, but school was stressing me out bad and I had no movation towards the degree I was going for. I'm kinda embarassed about it honestly because pretty much everyone in my family has at least a bachelors and my new field isn't as classy (I like it a lot though), but other people seem really excited for me.

I'm one quarter away from graduating and then in another few months I'll hopefully be a lawyer. Others are excited for me, but mostly I'm just terrified about job prospects and about actually passing the bar.

Probably buying the house.

It doesn't seem real to me, but everyone else is very excited. I'm more excited about adopting dogs and in a perpetual "do I have enough money" stress due to all these set-up costs.

I think I will just buy this chair then stop buying things for the house for a few weeks.

Sick of sitting on the floor tho...

Writing a novel. People are "encouraging" me and "helping" me. Just stop doing that, OK? Wish I'd never mentioned it at all.

My relationship.

This sounds bad, but hear me out. I'm happy about the relationship, that's not the issue.

The issue is I have other shit going on in my life being long-term unemployed, having the financial woes that go with that, having (mental) health issues etc.

But when you tell people that, they'll just say "well, at least you have a boyfriend", like that somehow fixes things. I mean, I love him, but he's not a band aid for some very real other issues.

My cousin is getting a hedgehog for her 18th birthday. The rest of the family is looking forward to it, but I'm over in my little corner thinking that she is going to end up killing that poor hedgie.

She is planning on using a clear tote box with chicken wire zip-tied to the lid. She is going to keep it on the floor. She has a Cairn terrier and two cats. Her house doesn't have heat either- they have to make due with space heaters or a fire in the chimney.

That's awful. So many people don't know how to care for hedgehogs and get one just because they're cute and they see fun pictures of them on the internet. Some people don't even know how to trim their claws and let them grow so wild that they get infected :(

Maybe you can send her some pamphlets or links about proper hedgehog care? If she truly wants to be a good pet owner, then I don't think she would be offended

Re: I'm so excited for you

(Anonymous) 2015-02-09 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've tried. I was thinking about getting one so I researched how to care for them, and ended up deciding they weren't the pet for me.
Any time I try to tell her stuff, she tells me to shut up- that I don't know what I'm talking about and I'm just jealous.
The breeder she is getting it from seems super sketchy to me. The guy and his wife sit out at the huge flea market in our state's fairgrounds. He's not listed in any of the hedgehog breeder lists. They're asking for $100 for a baby hedgehog. They told her she could pick the baby up when it was a month old. I tried telling her that they needed to be with their mothers for at least two months, but again, she told me to shut it. When she went to the market over the weekend, they told her that she'll have to pick it up later because he gave one from the litter hers is supposed to be from to someone the week before and the person called them saying the hedgehog died. Shouldn't someone that was a reputable breeder know off the bat that they need to stay with their mothers longer? The guy texts her pictures of the babies and the box they are in is really gross looking with poop everywhere. I'd keep it as clean as possible.
