While I appreciate your desire to spread justice, I'm disappointed that you didn't also encourage us to reject atheism after that guy shot those three Muslim students in North Carolina. I assume you must not have heard of it, since your commitment to free inquiry and anti-violence is of course wholly impartial and without any kind of favor or partisan bias, and you will immediately reject atheism upon hearing this. You are, after all, an honorable anon.

Guy going mental over a long running neighbour/parking dispute and kills three people, whilst also separately being anti-theist isn't close to comparable to targeting people specifically on the basis of their beliefs.

IF you take out all the gang related and domestic related murders, the vast amjority of the rest is people killing each other over literally the pettiest bullshit possible. On the scales of likelihood given all the circumstances it just being another neighbourhood dispute ending in murder is far more likely than a racially motivated murder.

I'd think it's partly both. The guy being anti-theist would be more likely to get angrier at the theists than non-theists just like a racist guy would be more likely to get angrier and retaliate against the people he was racist against. To claim it's purely out of anti-theist motivation isn't quite true though.

He was a nutjob who collected guns. He was going to shoot someone sooner or later or some insane reason. Parking was that reason. It just so happens his victims were Muslim.

And I know people are going, "Parking? People shoot people over parking?"

Why doesn't anyone consider that it was a combination of both? It probably was the parking dispute that prompted him to shoot them, but do you really want to bet he would've chosen such an extreme retaliation method if the other people were fellow militant atheists, or secular Buddhists, or Christmas-Easter Christians?

To add, if it were really as bad as everyone says it is take this scenario in, imagine over one and half billion people (roughly how many Muslims on the planet) out to kill non-Muslims. (This is what some people believe.) If this were actually happening there would be multiple bombings and shooting all over the planet at every second. But there is not. Because the majority of Muslims are just regular work a day, go to school, live their lives people.

I just want people to stop telling me that it's wrong for me to hate Islam. I'm sorry, but I do. I hate it the same way I hate Republicanism. And I hate what Muslims did to my family (Armenian here). Not only that, but the genocide against part of my family has never been recognized, let alone apologized for.

Muslims are still human beings who deserve to practice their religions in peace and I would never advocate violence against them.

But I do hate Islam and I'm tired of being told it's wrong for me to hate it.

Why?

When black people say they hate white people, no one says "hate the specific cultures that enslaved you" or the specific people that enslaved you. No, they're told that it's perfectly fine to hate all white people. Even if being born white is something white people can't help.

Why shouldn't I hate a religion that murdered members of my family, never recognized/apologized for it, drove them from their homes? People CHOOSE to believe in it -- it's a belief/ideology.

Muslims can still be good people, but I still hate Islam.

Well, there is the genocide in Guatemala that the US helped and now refuses to acknowledged. And quite a few recent genocides that aren't acknowledged and were aided or not stopped by others. So there is a lot of that going around.

The world is a shitty place. There are bad Muslims just like there are bad Christians, bad Jews, and bad Atheists. And bad people in whatever other category you can think of.

Although, I think there is a difference between hating a religion and hating all the people who believe in it.

And do you think I would tell Guatemalans that it's wrong for them to hate the US? No. Absolutely not. If anything, I'd say the best response would be "what can do? is there anything I can do?" And to recognize and APOLOGIZE for it. That might be a good first step.

But telling people it's WRONG to hate someone who helped commit a genocide against them?

It's not Islam. Extremist are the issue in pretty much anything.
Right now we're just seeing in the news more about Isalmic extremist than of other groups and that (and the fact non-extremist Islamists don't get as much screentime in the news) makes Islam seem dangerous per se.
So the question should be what should we do about extremists, no about Islam.

Because you and I both know your setup is stupid (a small group of radicals are bad, religion includes over a billion people, we've been over this before). It's a shame you didn't take the opportunity to make a point about free speech because that DOES need to happen. Evidently it's happening in Copenhagen. I hope people keep up the fight.
