I'm no Sleepy Hollow expert, but it isn't 230 years for him, right?
fenm: Fish Eye from "Sailor Moon SuperS" (Default)

He was asleep/comatose/in magical stasis for most of it, though. So... not really. He thought he was dead in the 1700's, then woke up in the 2010's.

If it's actually been that long for either of them, it's her. But she was in Purgatory, and who knows if time works the same, so... I'm not sure.

Besides, regardless of the passage of time, or if a marriage under the laws back then would be considered legal nowadays, they still considered themselves married, with, imo, is the most important thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but does that matter? It was 230 years for Katrina, and it takes two people for a marriage to work.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry people don't like your ship. That said, cheating is wrong. That doesn't mean you shouldn't ship it because (a) it's fanfiction who cares and (b) there's plenty of ways to ship it even without invoking it, but I think it is kind of a stumbling block for the ship esp if we're talking in canon terms.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally I don't think marriage as a concept is sacred, I just think that HE would think so. And my own personal opinion on marriage and cheating doesn't matter when it comes to the question of whether a married character would cheat, what matters is whether THEY would be okay with cheating. And I don't think he would.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It is pretty funny. It remains me of the Merlin fandom, which didn't give a shit about the traditional Arthurian legends unless they supported their ship, in which case they suddenly became sacrosanct.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Saaaaaame. The fans are nuts sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-16 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't get invested in a ship that is cheating, sorry. I heard it was getting really awful ratings anyway, so it'll probably be canceled before Ichabbie becomes a thing?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
The ratings are starting to slip more and more as the show goes on - they recently lost over a million viewers, which a lot of people (IchAbbie shippers, mostly) are blaming on Katrina.

I've recently stopped watching myself, I can't stand what the show has become, and I hate all the hatred that people pile on Katrina (who was one of my favourite characters). It's also annoying because the execs initially said Ichabod and Abbie would be solely platonic... and then Tom Mison recently gave an interview where he said that Ichabod was completely in love with Abbie. It seems like they're butchering Katrina's character to force an IchAbbie endgame, and I'm done with that shit.

I mean, marriage IS sacred. That doesnt mean people who have marriages that don't work out are evil and awful (not even in all cases of infidelity) but marriage has a lot symbolism and religious meaning that goes beyond the oft-trotted chestnut of "it's just a contract!"

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 12:01 am (UTC)(link)

I'm just not into infidelity in fic or canon. I actually do ship Ichabbie (not really hardcore though. more of a "oh, that would be nice" kind of way) but only if I imagine that he and his wife get separated. That's just me though, you can fantasize whatever you want

Same, I hate infidelity.

I love Abbie and Ichabod's relationship, and while I don't need it to happen in canon I wouldn't mind some small hints at romantic feelings between the two. (Only after Ichabod is 100% separated from his wife though. He wouldn't cheat on her, and Abbie wouldn't want to get in the middle of their marriage either.)

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that the most popular fic needs infidelity to work at the moment is actually what keeps me out of this fandom and show. Sorry.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 12:18 am (UTC)(link)

Their marriage has been falling apart all season long and seems pretty irreparable now - She is literally trying to kill him, so I'd say all bets are off.

Eh, I was a lot more fussed back when it seemed like Ichabod (and we never entirely saw what Katrina thought of it, but since Ichabod was the one being shipped) was devoted to Katrina and fully invested in their marriage. After a season of their marriage falling apart I'm a lot more willing to believe in alternatives.

(That said if they pull out a sudden True Love Once-Upon-A-Time-style lip-smashing everything is suddenly all right relationship for Ichabbie... I don't see that happening that suddenly, either.)

Text: I think the part of fandom who’s freaking out over the sanctity of a FICTIONAL MARRIAGE are even crazier than the Ichabbie shippers.

Good marriags between good people fail all the time for far less serious reasons than dishonesty, distrust, and a 230 year separation, ffs.

I’m sick of fandom pretending that marriage is sacred and untouchable

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Marriage isn't sacred, and it's not always forever. People need to get over the idea that it's either of those things. Marriage is what the two people in it make it out to be.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I hate that everyone assumes when I ship Ichabbie it's a cheating situation. It's fanfic and hypothetical at this point, I ship them quite a few years into to the future, where things with Ichabod and Katrina have already fallen apart. Or situation B, Ichabod and Abbie have feelings for each other but don't act on them because of his loyalty. In season 1 I assumed Katrina was never going to make it out of purgatory and Ichabod was going to have to make his peace with that eventually. See, a lot of ways for it not to be cheating.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
just bring me so much joy when people being so pissed in marriage yet can't bring any resolution for their mishaps. well, at least, there is divorce.

Ichabod and Katrina are a dishonest, screwed up mess at this point. I don't want Ichabod to cheat on Katrina. I hate infidelity. I just want the marriage to end period. It's awful for both of them.

If Ichabod ends up in a romantic relationship with Abbie after he breaks it off with Katrina, that's fine.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
As far as shipping goes, I think people should be able to ship whatever they want. Though I also understand those who feel like it's cheating shipping a character who is married/in love with someone else.
Marriage is suppose to be the sacred bonding of two people who want to love each other forever. It doesn't always work out like that in the real world, but that's what people want marriage to be.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-17 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not even my fandom but I saw the ridiculness and hypocrisy on my dash. I never read shippers caring so much about marriage just to 'judge' and discourage people who ship him with the main female character
Since when shippers care about married people or canon relationships? Never stopped shippers. If he were shipped with a white girl or his male best friend no one would care about him being married or if he had ten kids and obviously loved his wife.
If you don't like the other ship fine but don't be disingenuos.
