Re: Random question

No. If I had family there, I wouldn't want to move there. And I always thought work visas were temporary?

It's so stupid that people can't just live where they want, honestly. :/

Work visa's are temporary but if you've been legally working in the UK for 5 years(at minimum I think though there may be some differences depending on what work-visa you have, lots of bureaucratic BS yada, yada) then you can apply for citizenship.

Work-visa's are the easiest way to get over here but the difficult part about them is that the company you work for has to want to keep you on, which isn't impossible but it can be an issue. There are also visiting visas but I don't believe that they allow for citizenship applications

Actually here: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration this has got a lot of information on it, hopefully there'll be something in there that helps.

Well...I wonder if I can get a work visa for something like stocking shelves at night...does it have to be a "real" job or can it be something a high school student might do over the summer? Because that's about all I can see myself doing. Also, is there an hours/week requirement?

I've got a feeling only 'proper' jobs count for work visas.

It has to be a "real" job. The sort of jobs that take on foreign workers are going to be either highly skilled or looking to fill a shortage in various industries. We're talking engineering, biochem, the medical field, accounting and investment banking, the legal profession, business etc. Basically you'd need a college degree minimum (ideally graduate level) and preferably experience in your chosen field.

So basically no, you cannot get a work visa for anything other than a professional job. And even then, even if you had all the necessary qualifications and experience it's extremely unlikely you'd even get considered for a work visa without a firm job offer from a UK employer on the table, or unless you were already employed in the US and your company was transferring you to the UK.

"It's so stupid that people can't just live where they want, honestly."

It certainly seems that way on a personal reason when you want to move abroad, but countries have these rules for a reason. They really can't just let random people come settle down permanently. Every country has rules about immigration, and Europe is among the strictest. From citizens of the country's point of view, it would be absolutely chaos to let any immigrant in whenever they like. especially people who aren't bringing money into the country.
