There's been wank? Why?

Yes. The author of the mod was harassed, deleted the mod, their twitter and blog.

But... why? It's just a romance mod. Seems fine to me. If you don't want it don't use it.

/sigh I don't know. I didn't have the willpower to track what people were saying - I just saw people condemning the ones who harassed the author on my feed.

That is some weird shit.

Long story short. Person publishes bi!Cass mod, some people get angry because they feel that's against Cassandra's character, also equating bi!Cass to bi!Dorian in terms of awfulness and character assassination, they bully mod-maker out of tumblr, things explode, there's screaming everywhere.

That is the fucking dumbest thing I've heard this week and I work with 6th graders ever fucking day. Also, I don't see how it's anything like making Dorian straight. At all.

There is actually a bi!Dorian mod out now, which is wow, probably awkwardest thing ever, your female inquisitor standing there all silent while Dorian talks about how he had to leave Tevinter because he wouldn't marry a woman... That's so romantic and not terrible at all.
Also bi!Cullen mod, but no one is angry about that, at least I haven't seen any. For some reason it was Cassandra, who's sexuality people were really really passionate about.

Oh there is a bi Cullen mod out? That's interesting, since he was supposed to be bi and people have even found files of recorded dialogue about male Inquisitors.

Solas and Cullen were both supposed to be bi, but they didn't have time to finish those. Personally I would have liked a bi!Solas. There's a mod, but meh, I'm not into that.

There is a bi female LI in the game without modding.

From what I understand this fandom is the unhappiest one in recent times so if you sneeze in the wrong direction they'll wank about it.

I had a friend who went from cool to absolute batshittery when he discovered DA and fell in obsession with Anders.

You couldn't say anything critical about Anders without him having a meltdown.

As a very unhappy member of this fandom, I can say that is completely true. There's also a lot of people who, whether knowing it or not, just keep stirring the pot. It's in a constant whir. The fanart is pretty, tough. And sometimes you get good meta.

I've learned the best way to deal with this fandom is to get a friend or two, and complain to them about how horrible Dragon Age -fandom is. Ugh. It limits the range of discussion quite considerably, but...

Your coping mechanism is exactly the way to go these days. It used to be less true- I was able to operate in fairly sizeable groups up through DA2's release, but there is something about DAI that has broken everyone. I don't know what it is, but I have exactly two friends these days that I feel like I can talk to without fearing full on fallout for stating even the most innocuous of opinions.

I found that following people on Tumblr rather than tags is pretty much the best thing ever. I've heard about the drama but don't actually have to deal with it directly. And I can enjoy the fact that there are a lot of great DA fans out there who one can have interesting, in-depth conversations with because there's a lot to talk about when it comes to this series.

Huuuuh, glad I haven't dipped my toes in the fandom then.

I didn't even buy the game because the fandom was so repellent. I tend to read spoilers so I know some plot points and read meta, but by god I'm not going to let myself get invested in a series with a fandom like that.

I'm just playing with RL friends so it's still fun for me.

Has it ever been a happy fandom? Honest question, I came in a few years late for both previous games so I haven't really dipped my toes into it. But you still hear things but since so late not sure if exaggeration or true.

Inquisition I was hoping would be my lurking foray into the fandom.

I couldn't say, I wasn't there for the first few games' fandoms either. I've seen some meta about DA2, and it mostly consists of trying to stuff as many mental illnesses into the characters as possible??

TBH, the LJ dragon_age community is about the only DA fandom I'm part of at all, and I have seen... like, no drama. I've mostly seen a lot of squeeing. Might look there?
