I honestly don't get this.

Firstly, good story is a good story, a good character is a good character, a good romance is a good romance (and frankly the majority of on-screen het romances are pretty crap)

Secondly, most series and films still have a main hero (often even duo) of white, straight people - like, are you really that bothered by the gay or black side character up to the point of not liking the medium? Because, I don't often say this, that DOES actually sound somewhat racist and homophobic.


Also, how do you even get through LIFE if it bothers you in fiction? Do you live in a white, straight enclave of some sort?

#2: I've got to wonder what shows they are watching if they see "too much" diversity; most of what I see here in the US is 80% white. (Other than Blackish and Off the Boat, there aren't many that even get close to 50% PoC. Brooklyn 99 and New Girl are the nly two I can think of at the moment.)

I'm the exact opposite: I love diversity in entertainment. But I hate it when it's shoehorned in like "OH! we need a black guy. And a gay guy. OH! We could make a black guy be gay, two birds with one stone, etc." Token characters thrown in for representation cookies suck.
