(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 12:17 am (UTC)(link)Though, honestly, I don't know that it's so much about being "progressive" in this case as trying to keep Selina morally ambiguous--and darker than #c0c0c0. Hint that she's a DepravedBisexual, maybe, or at least reinforce that she lives without regard for conventional norms of behavior.

I will say DC has been making great strides in creating comics for a broader audience than straight white dudes, though. I just don't know if I have the heart to pick up Catwoman again after Ann Nocenti's run was so, so terrible.

(Sam Dies in the course of "getting out of here". No really. Not gonna live 10 more pages.)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 03:30 am (UTC)(link)Not all representation is good representation. If it's done like shit, then it's shit. If a character is confirmed "bi", kisses a girl once, and then it's never brought up at all, again, ever? And are only seen kissing dudes the rest of the time? Then it's shit. It deserves to be criticized and people have every right to point it out and demand better. Glee is a prime example of "trying to be representative and fucking it up".
I don't follow this comic so I'm not sure what the situation was, but people are undoubtedly going to be bitter. Especially with comics, where they retcon things left and right. DC has a pretty bad track record, too. I can't blame anyone for being suspicious of motive.
So don't act like people have to shut up and be happy when big name media throw half-assed shit in their faces in the name of representation.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 03:34 am (UTC)(link)Don't tell me you're one of those people who think lgbt fans need to be 100% happy and accepting of everything ever and should never ever complain or voice any concern.
Because if so, please stop.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 01:50 am (UTC)(link)And it's being written by Genevieve Valentine, whose The Girls at the Kingfisher Club was one of my favorite books of last year. Almost every time I've tried to read DC comics before, I've regretted it, but with a bi Catwoman as incentive, I may just have to try one more time.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 04:49 am (UTC)(link)I'm glad it made people happy, but those same people are blatantly ignoring that it was still a half-assed excuse of representation. You can be happy that there was confirmation but still criticize the fact that it was done horribly.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 05:43 am (UTC)(link)Text: I want to be excited about Catwoman being canonically bi, but somehow I can’t stop feeling like it’s just a cheap “Look, we’re progressive!” copout attempt from DC.
