Fleur? Lily? Ginny? I don't remember if they're ever described as wearing pink, but they're all pretty feminine.

Come to think of it, red hair and pink are famous for going badly together, so Lily and Ginny probably didn't wear it... oh wait, that's why JK made them redheads! Gosh anon you're right about everything!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Fleur is feminine (but a side character, and also one who comes in for a lot of invective from some of the other characters at times, so I'm not sure how good an example that is).

Ginny is a hella tomboy, and I don't think we ever really know enough about Lily to say whether or not she was feminine.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginny's pretty and popular with boys at school. In fictional trait coding, that negates any tomboyish traits she might have (and the only one I can think of is being athletic).

Well, there's also the fact that her signature spell is snot-related. :P

And honestly, Ginny makes me think of a lot of girls I knew in high school who were athletic, but still pretty girly in other respects. I know fiction /=/ reality, just saying, you can be both.

Fleur gets a lot of random hate that is never really portrayed as bad.

Both Ginny and Lily may be feminine, but not in the same way as Umbridge or Lavender or Romilda are. And they're both badass too.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I still can't believe that Ginny/Hermione/Molly got away with the way they treated Fleur. :/

I think we were actually supposed to think it was funny, which adds to my feeling that JKR doesn't like girly people.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, what can you expect, they're British and Fleur is French

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's weird, the only Fleur I know is from the North Country.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, okay, but the actual Fleur from the book is French.

I thought it was obvious that they were jealous of her and you were supposed to think they were being unfair.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I forgot, what did they do to Fleur again? Did they bully her or something? I haven't read the books in years.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
They called her "Phlegm" behind her back, referred to her as a cow, called her stupid, mocked her mannerisms, and were visibly unhappy whenever she tried to talk to them. When Harry tried to defend her by saying she wasn't stupid, they said that he was only saying that because he thinks she's hot.

A lamp flickered on. It was Hermione Granger, wearing a pink bathrobe and a frown.
"You!" said Ron furiously. "Go back to bed!"
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

I don't know about in the rest of the books, but Hermione does where pink, at least once.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
well to be fair, that was before she became friends with Harry & Ron and was described as shrill and annoyingly uptight.

But wasn't the idea that Harry and Ron realized they were wrong about her?

Plus, IDK, I doubt that she got rid of it immediately post-troll, so we can infer she still has it? I'm pretty sure, at least.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Hermione had become a bit more relaxed about breaking the rules since Harry and Ron saved her from the mountain troll..." etc.
I think they all eased up a bit and trusted each other after the troll fight.

Still could be argued that Joanne uses pink as sign for something silliness, s. Hagrid's umbrella as well.
Green, gold and red also have certain associations in the book, after all.

[personal profile] loracarol 2015-03-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not arguing against that! Not at all, but... I don't see why that'd mean she'd get rid of her robe?

I mean, I agree that colors have meanings, but considering that pink shows up three times (to the best of my knowledge w/ Hermione's robe, Hagrid's umbrella, and Umbridge's Umbridge), and Umbridge is in no way "silly", I don't know if I'm comfortable ascribing anything to that color, unlike green/gold/red which are used consistently throughout the books.

Pink is allowed on bathrobes, surely?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Was that when they still think she's just this annoying girl, before she became their friend? That would explain it. The pile of evidence grows.
loracarol: (why hello there ^_~)

[personal profile] loracarol 2015-03-10 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't honestly remember? But considering we have no proof that she immediately threw it out as soon as they became friends...

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
But it's no longer mentioned afterwards, or was it?

been years since I read the books

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, that's at the beginning of the first book, where Hermione is still someone the protagonists dislike. You don't know that later on, she'll be someone you're supposed to like.
loracarol: (Mulan)

[personal profile] loracarol 2015-03-10 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, Harry and Ron dislike her, but I never got the idea that the readers were also supposed to dislike her too?
