I'm annoyed with the 'critical reviews' assignment because the trouble could so easily have been avoided by just having them turn the critical comments in rather than submitting them on the website.

I was a lot more bothered by the assignment to create a new body of fanworks that would get fifty reviews.

50 reviews? What the hell? Are these comments or another form like kudos? And are they for popular fandoms? That assignment sounds awful.

Oh lol, yeah. I saw that and was like "Good luck!"

This whole thing just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

I hope their course lasts a few years, because that's how long 50 reviews can take for some fics.

I don't think I've gotten 50 reviews in my entire fanwriting "career", and I've been writing for 14 years!

I really should stop writing for tiny fandoms.

How would it work? A student can ask friends/acquaintances/whoever to review. O_o

Sounds like the student running the class had a lot to learn about teaching lit.

Pretty much this. When this first blew up I read the syllabus for the class and it was painfully obvious that the students running it thought it would be fun to run a course where they could read kinky smutty fanfic for class credit, but they'd tried to toss in some sociology-type stuff to make it sound like more than "We're going to read porn and talk about it." Hence the participation-in-fandom requirements. Except participating in any fandom doesn't really follow a class rubric.
