I'm in an inter-racial relationship and we've planned to have kids in the future. But having come across a ton of SJW stuff off tumblr lately, specifically a viral checklist created by 'mixed kids' to their 'white relatives' that boiled down to them being evil terrible people that should not be in their mixed relative's lives because they hate them, I'm starting to have second thoughts. I don't want my children to eventually hate me because I'm their 'evil white mother'. The thought is terribly depressing.

Just don't let them on the internet without talking to them about how stupid the internet is as a group.

I sympathize. I find a lot of black guys attractive, but I don't know if I could ever date a black man because if I some day had a family, I'd be faced with mixed kids.

And it's not that I don't want mixed kids, but it's just that I feel like I'd be completely unprepared to deal with the racial issues they would face, both large to small (dealing with police, hair, etc.)

Note that I brought up black people specifically because I feel like here in the US, that's the one mix that would face the most issues.

Well, most black guys aren't attractive at all. It shouldn't be hard for most people to avoid dating them. What's wrong with you?

I'd post a whole bunch of pictures of Idris Elba, Jesse L. Martin, and Anthony Mackie as counter-arguments, but as trolls go you're pretty freaking obvious.

Keep in mind that sjw tumblr is not the world, and many mixed kids love their relatives on both sides. I'd actually say those people on tumblr are just a vocal minority and/or maybe they truly did have some awful relatives.

Love and be kind to your kids and support them as best you can. I can't guarantee things will turn out well, but doing those things gives you the best chance.

If you're a good mother, your kids won't hate you because of something stupid like that. They're more likely to hate the list, if they see it or hear something like it.

Oh man. Your first mistake was mistaking the tumblr SJW bubble for reality.

Just be a good mom. Love your kids and treat them as individuals who are allowed to make their own decisions, and they won't hate you no matter what some ranty asshole on the internet tells them to do.

What races are you two? This has a serious impact on exactly how they're seen tbqh.

Best case you're asian and white.

I'm white, he's African American. What got to me was that quite a few of the numbers came off like it was from a black/white mixed person. I guess that made it hit closer to home for me.

Look, those people aren't you. They have their own issues. Don't make them yours. Love your kids, if and or when you have them. That's the most you can do. And never go to tumblr for any kind of guidance. It can be the worst of humanity on that site.

Stop taking SJW posts on tumblr seriously, oh my god. I know many mixed raced kids who don't hate their white parent and white side of the family. Seriously.

I don't think they're being ridiculous to be honest.

There ARE mixed kids on tumblr who hate their white parents.

And there are mixed race families that have tensions.

I'm mixed -- Middle-Eastern and white European -- and it caused a lot of problems in my family. Though those were, admittedly, more due to cultural issues than race issues.

A lot of people on Tumblr are teenagers trying to set an identity, which usually involves rebelling against family. I'm hardly going to say that mixed-race kids never have problems because of it, but Tumblr is not representative of the real world.

For what it's worth, every half-black/half-white person I've known has been very defensive and protective of their parents (unless they were shitty parents, but race was never brought into it). Your children will not hate you unless you treat them like shit (er, not that you would).

Take heart. I grew up with quite a few mixed heritage kids (mostly Chinese/Caucasian) and my niece/nephews are Latino/Caucasian and they're all happy, well adjusted people who are very close to their families.

Don't worry.

1. They'll love you for being their Mommy.
2. Then they'll be embarrassed by you for being their uncool mom.
3. Then they'll hate you for being their biitchwhore mom who never understands what it's like to be them (those tumblr posts are from this era, btw)
4. Then they'll love you agan for putting up with and continuing to love and guide them inspite of stage 3
5. Then they'll miss you as their mommy.

If you're a good mother Stage 4 and 5 last the longest regardless of other factors

Hello I am mixed. Most of my friends are mixed (of the same group) and we all love our mums (and dads).

That SJW stuff is complete and utter bunk. Your children are unlikely to think that - treat them right and fairly and they're going to grow up just like everyone else with a healthy dose of I love my mum and dad*

And I hate to use the argument, but generally lists like this on tumblr? The person who writes it turns out not to be mixed at all OR they have a really good reason for their whopping statements (abuse etc) which sucks.

Go make with the babies.

*edit* And don't forget the other half of tumblr will insist you're children are either/or and cannot be mixed or participate in their cultures equally ;) also utter bunk.

*unless you abuse them but it doesn't sound like you will, although they prob will go through the usual angst teen stage but come on thats normal

As a partly-mixed kid (Chinese ancestors and Chinese grandmother on my dad's side. My dad, sisters and I carry that gene on our face), I hope you can find a way to overcome your problem. That really sucks.
