Magic it away, of course!

No, don't tell me otherwise. I hate periods and if magic exists in the world, it needs to be the kind that can fix that.

I frequently wonder about period logistics in most fantastic settings, Hogwarts included, so it's not just you.

Best one so far: Bloodbending.

Hahaha. Love this secret.

I think they probably just have the same feminine hygiene products (hospital wing-issued? Or brought from home one breaks), but they never slip or leak because of some charm.

Also instead of midol you have to drink some extremely gross potion that works better, but maybe it's easier to tough out the cramps.

Wear wizarding feminine hygiene products, probably. Maybe McGonagal gives the girls the talk if they didn't get it at home?

There's a good chapter in The Never Ending Road (an always a female Harry Potter fic) in which Harry gets her period.

Damn do you suck at your job, Dementors! Get out of that poor girl's uterus! You're supposed to suck out, not get sucked in how did you even do that >:U

I'm just imagining you could probably use body fluids for potions tbh. And accio'd tampons flying through the halls.

I would think no tampons with the whole old fashioned thing they have going on. Then again you never really know with the wizarding world. They seem to habe caught on to feminism much earlier.

I haven't wondered this about Harry Potter but I wonder this about all sorts of other stuff, especially long journeys or quests. Pirates, Tolkien, women held captive in some tower. I figure magic would have figured something out so Harry Potter Universe is probably an easy fix compared to some of that other stuff.

You know, when I saw your secret, I thought it would be about what would happen if someone's greatest fear were pregnancy and they encountered a Dementor. This was a pretty disturbing mental image, NGL.

Re:periods, though, I'm pretty sure there's just some easy-to-use and incredibly efficient magic analogue of pads.

Any magic that cannot do away with periods is insufficiently magical.

I think if you have Dementors in your uterus you have bigger problems than stained robes.

Didn't Rowling say on Pottermore that it took a long time for wizards to adopt indoor plumbing, and that before that they'd just go wherever and vanish the waste? Maybe you can just do the same thing blood.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I always imagine the blood would be use for really dark blood magic.

I always imagined that they could use magic to make it easier, either by making it less heavy or getting rid of the pain/general feeling of blah. I know that's what I'd use magic for(that or just getting rid of them for me entirely).

I saved my virgin blood. On a washcloth. Just in case. (I still have it.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Considering canon specifically states that Ye Olde Wizards and Witches used to magic poop away rather than cop a squat?

I'm going with 'and for my next trick, I'm going to make my menstrual blood disappear!'.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
At the very least they'd have better methods of pain relief and stain removal, also less paranoia with bulky pads or visible leaks with the robes.

Haha, I'm always wondering what girls do about their periods in futuristic/magic/fantasy settings. It's always one of the little things at the back of my mind.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
On the bright side if there is ever a spell or potion that requires blood you won't have to prick your finger to get it. Ba dum tss.
