Wrote a fic when I was just barely 18, for a character-focused zine. Submitted it by email, got back a note saying "You are too young to be writing anywhere near this well."

I had a couple people draw fanart of my fanfics. I remember one in particular drew a manga-style comic, a couple pages long. I had just had a rough day and wanting to go home, lock my door behind me and cry for awhile, but then saw that. The art was pretty good, actually, and seeing an illustrated version of this one scene, that was so cool. Definitely my best moment.

I submitted one of my stories to a fandom archive, and I got a rejection letter from a super-BNF. He pointed out some problems I needed to fix, but he thought the story was pretty good overall. I'm still proud of that.

I messaged my favourite comic artist to let them know it was my favourite comic and if it doesn't bother them my dog will be partially named after one of her characters.

Her response was fanart of the character and dog together. Still tickled pink over that. Two more weeks and I'm gonna become a permanent patreon!

Does WoW count as fandom? If so, killing the Lich King. It took several months for my tiny guild to work up to that. It was sweet, sweet victory.

Counting neopets as a fandom, when I got my UC RB Kyrii I was so happy I cried a little. Been working so long for those pixels.

It's so silly, but I was such a huge Star Wars fan, and when they opened Disneyland Paris they had the StarTours thing, and i remember being so, so exited. Like i could just step into the magic.

Probably capslock_atla and ihasatardis in their golden years. ihasatardis in particular. Everything heartbreaking about the show was made hilarious. Ships and shipwars were playfully mocked. There was no character bashing whatsoever.

Getting a phone call from my favourite writer on CM (he left the show years ago). He was quite nice and I got a couple little insider tidbits about things on the show.

Being told that a Law & Order: CI slash story I'd written was responsible for that reader getting into slash and writing her own fic. Which really blew me away...and it was nice of them to tell me.

Meeting someone who became (and still is) a really, really good friend. We're still friends some 10 or so years later.

My years at LJ are a highlight, though I find it difficult to pick out a single moment because there were lots of them. I had some fantastic friends who I still miss. (One of which I still keep in touch with, and am very thankful for; I guess meeting her is the highlight.)

My time in SGA fandom was great! I spent a lot of time at Wraithbait back in the day, commenting on the McShep comm and reading various forums. House_wilson was also a favorite... I miss the popularity of episodic discussion. Back then I loved commenting on those episode discussion threads.

Before that, LOTR fandom as a whole. I read and reread LOTR and spent hours on TORN's message boards. (Then I watched and rewatched the films, and went back to TORN's message boards, lol.)

Oh, and the kink memes. Back when kink memes were a bit more popular I posted a shitton of prompts and got quite a few fills. It was fun participating even if I only prompted and commented on things.

I don't have a lot of specific highlights though, because most my enjoyable experiences in fandom have been talking to other people and having fun reading fic or posting on message boards.

I guess I'll also go with kallanda_lee and say Star Tours as well, because I went as a kid and it has always stayed with me. (I got to hug Chewie, too!)

The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter now...that might be one of the worst, because while I can think back on it today and go, "That was so cool!" at the time I was so fucking terrified I could've peed my pants. I cried, and was traumatized. Thanks mom and dad!

-It seems like a small thing, but there were a bunch of us in the Dark Angel fandom who used to have these massive, hours-long group chats on AIM. I remember those nights very fondly, and miss them.

-I happened to come across someone on a forum saying that a smutty fic I'd written (my first ever!) was the best they'd ever read. Looking back, I feel little weird about that, because I was only 15 when I wrote it. But at the time, it put me over the moon.

-This one I know I've mentioned here before, but I wasn't yet a named user. In 2013, I went to a con attended by Brandon Sanderson, and I packed a copy of 'The Way of Kings' to bring to his signing. So I'm there, a few minutes before the signing is set to start, waiting in line with everyone else, when he arrives...and asks if anyone has a copy of 'The Way of Kings.' He winds up taking my copy, using it to consult with one of the artists he'd contracted for 'Words of Radiance,' and then writing "thanks for loaning me your book!" above his autograph. So. Cool.

Going to an anime convention and being 18. There was always this one viewing room of mystery (that's what it was called) that you had to be of viewing age for, and it was definitely a fun experience. Basically the host would show whatever shows he thought were fun, including both sfw and nsfw, and the folk in the room were just the most pleasant, hilarious, and non weeby bunch ever. Sort of like an irl shitstream I suppose, except nothing was shit, and the humor way infectious a la mst3k without becoming obnoxious or hard to hear over. Fell in love with Gatchaman because of this.

Eta: also, screwing around in the heydays of the hetalia anon meme was great. Drawing requests, making fun of everyone, sending positive vibes when I felt like it, shitposting, singing, shit stirring, fun :)

Meeting the people in my old fandoms irl. They were (with the exception of one individual) some of the loveliest, most awesome people I have ever met.

Ahh, I have a lot but for some reason the heyday of Homestuck fandom is what comes to mind. I was more a lurker than otherwise but my roommate at the time was also a fan and we had a lot of good times. In particular I remember getting up early with her to watch Cascade when it came out and squeeing over it together <3 Neither of us is nearly as involved in the fandom anymore but we still call each other moirails x3

Watching [S] Cascade at 9AM after it came out, with my moirail close friend and then-roommate, sitting on our ottoman footstools in our sweats and slippers and making entirely too much squeeing noise.

I dunno. Hearing someone make a reference, and suddenly realizing you both like the same thing is pretty cool, to me. I don't know that's necessarily consider a "fandom experience," but we proceed to gush about said thing for a while.

-The first fic I ever posted online got a lot of readers telling me they loved it. I've always been afraid to share my writings, so getting such positive feedback was really surprising in a good way.

-Keeping a close friendship and connection with a couple of fandom friends I made nearly a whole decade ago. <3
