It's a terribly fowl habit to fall into, I agree.

Re: Characterization You Hate

You think? I didn't think so. I think the uh...thing, Loki's spear or whatever, was making them all a bit nasty. But i loved it when he pulled out hat huge array of whatever-the-fuck Tony wanted him to look at he has *no friggin' clue* and so he just says 'it seems to run on some form of electricity'.

HA.

He was pretty snarky in WS, too. I dunno - maybe it's rose-colored glasses, but he didn't come off asshole-ish to me. But then, Tony doesn't, to me, either, so.....

Now that I know that was the point where everything went downhill, I wish I'd quitted at that reveal. It was so illogical (and the "logical" conversation between him and Bones when they caught him was only adding insult to injury) and he was my favorite character at the time.

From your toes to your head, you are taller when you are lying down than when you are standing. You will also find that you are a little taller in the morning than you are in the evening. Gravity, bitches!

Re: Things you thought you were exceptionally good at as a kid/teen/young adult and now doubt?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Reading as a kid. My parents always went on and on about how I was a good reader. Then I grew up and learned most "good readers" were reading Jane Austen when I was... not.

I mean, I think I was a good reader - I had a higher reading level, though it wasn't exceptionally high. But I don't think I was as good as I grew up believing, which sucks a bit because it was something I was so very proud of.
bur: There was a comic where Daredevil gets, well, gang-beered. And here's a panel. (Daredevil SPLATT)

Raziel would also be the worst at giving head.

Yes it is.

[personal profile] manzana 2015-04-04 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That... makes a surprising amount of sense! He totally looks like "surprise secret murderer". Huh. How I wish they had gone with that instead.

I don't know, I feel like most cities are so dynamic that even if you've lived in them for a while, you'll still have plenty of things to be excited about after a short break. All sorts of amazing changes and events.

Also, you can explore the same city almost endlessly. I don't think I'm remotely done exploring the places where I spent many years of my life (though, granted, one of them seems to be the largest city in Europe).

I think that's definitely worth being proud of. I'm terrible at finishing even first drafts, so to me, that's amazing!

Re: Actually..

Get help. That is not at all healthy, physically or psychologically.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But, then, you have to look at people like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth and the incredibly strict and strenuous diets and exercise regimens they undergo as well

Go the fuck to hell you piece of inhuman filth

- Hedy Lamarr, best known for being a gorgeous actress, was also a brilliant science nerd and is partially responsible for the invention of Wi-Fi.

- Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, was the daughter of the author of one of the most famous and influential early works of feminist theory. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Vindication_of_the_Rights_of_Woman)

- Julie Andrews wrote a children's novel called The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles.

- Dr. Seuss wrote novels under the pen name Rosetta Stone, which is probably a reference to the archaeological discovery of the same name.

- Val Kilmer voiced Moses in The Prince of Egypt, and Michelle Pfeiffer voiced his wife Tzipporah. Coincidentally, Val Kilmer played Batman in Batman Forever and Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in Batman Returns.

- Speaking of Batman, there is a comic where he recognizes a woman named Hino Rei as the Martian Manhunter in disguise, and comments that the name was a giveaway. This suggests that Batman and the Martian Manhunter are both Sailor Moon fans!

- In the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the three protagonists are all played by actors who have also been villains in comic book movies. Specifically: General Zod, the Red Skull, and Aldrich Killian.

- Eeyore and Optimus Prime are voiced by the same guy.

- When Frankie Laine sang the theme song for Blazing Saddles, he was not aware that the film was a parody. Mel Brooks didn't have the heart to tell him the truth.

- Similarly, Slim Pickens didn't know that Dr. Strangelove was a comedy and played his role completely straight.

- The scene in Spaceballs where Dark Helmet plays with his action figures was improvised by Rick Moranis.

- Vin Diesel loves Dungeons & Dragons.

- The word "robot" comes from a play called R.U.R.

- The last march of the Ents was inspired by Macbeth. Tolkien was disappointed when the part about Birnam Wood comiing to Dunsinane turned out to not literally be the trees getting up and walking over there. Also, the part where Eowyn kills the Witch-king was inspired by Macduff's "no man born of woman" thing.

- The myth of Atlantis may have been based on the Thera eruption. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoan_eruption)

- Ducks have maze-shaped vaginas. This is because male ducks tend to rape female ducks, so female ducks evolved to make it difficult for them. In response, male ducks evolved to have really weird looking penises.

- Millions of years ago, there was an animal called Opabinia regalis that had an giant clawed arm sticking out of its head. It also had five eyes. Here's a picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opabinia#/media/File:Opabinia_BW2.jpg

- Sea cucumbers breathe through their anuses.

I don't think feeling the need to save someone is banal at all. On the contrary, I think it's rather awesome!
