It's already been brought up, but what if I can't draw at all? You'd get pissed at me for using a PB then? Sry2say, but I create OCs just fine without drawing them or whatever. Hell if it's text-based, why the hell do I need to draw? Writing 'em out should be description enough, right?

Also, why don't YOU try to roleplay a character that's already been established? IMO, I think it's harder to do this because people out there KNOW the canon, and people out there would judge how you play the character based on how spot-on your characterization is in comparison to the original. If it's an original character, well, no one knows if you're playing them consistently, and no one as hell sure cares if you do.

And as for your main point? A LOT OF PEOPLE DO IT QUITE WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Maybe you're either blind, in denial, or just plain retarded to realize this.

If you can't draw ask a friend or write a description. Thats what I do for a lot of my starting characters and you thought of that already. Thank you for that. PB is a little more tolerable for me, but still just wish people would write.

I have tried playing an established character and I hated it. I felt stuck in the role given me, so that even if people said I did good, I didn't like it.
It may be easier to judge OOC on canon characters, but theres too damn many mess ups to deal with that way because so few people do established characters well. It would save me a headache if they would make their own characters and I wouldn't have to care about OOCness.
RP IS NOT ABOUT HOW IN CHARACTER YOU SEEM! If that is all you can judge a player by, I feel even more sad. Who cares if they are IC? It doesn't matter, you play for the joy of living a different life as a different person for a while.
Some people do it well, but I don't think most people do the artist/creators justice.

21. I just set that image as my wallpaper (and I haven't seen/heard anything from Lovely Complex for months). But this is probably my favorite het pairing ever. I think it proves nicely that a couple can still be friends and lovers. They're so good together.

17. Oh man I absolutely loved Luke. He was basically my entire hook for the game for the first half or so. (Then I finally managed to start spreading my passionate love to the others; Asch, Jade, Natalia, etc, etc)

But I can see why some would be turned off to him for a while; that's kind of the point. For what it's worth, pretty much the core of the game is about him changing and learning to grow up. And personally, on every subsequent replay, I feel more and more sympathetic to long-haired Luke to begin with anyway. Full knowledge of his circumstances really sheds a different light to his spoiled nature, I think.

40. I hear ya. I was in an RP once where other players were allowed to use your characters a little (like making them move out of the way or something), but one player made one of my characters say something so OOC that it still bugs me to this day, even though it was almost ten years ago.

That sounds like an interesting way to RP...might have to look around just to see the style.
Any ways, people making you say things OOC sucks.

I keep hoping people will try original characters just to stop dealing with OOC drama.

First of all, as previously stated, not everyone's an artist. I myself don't use PBs, but even so, using them is far better than having horribly drawn images or sub-par. Sometimes it's the best someone can do, and locating them can be difficult as is, or so I imagine.

ALSO... on non-OCs...

Dude, it's no easier than RPing an OC. Heck, it's actually harder because you have to base them off of a pre-existing canon, thus making sure you keep their personality, speech, and mannerisms correct. Plus, some fandom characters don't have a solid background, so interpretation has to be added here or there. There are PLENTY who do the job well, especially in strict RPs where apps aren't exactly simple.

And how on earth is it different from fanfiction? There's plenty of badfic, and that's ok? I'm sorry, but I don't see it. If they can write them well in a fic, I don't see how RPing is any different, and likewise, if they suck at fanfic writing, they shouldn't RP that character.

Lastly, I don't see why people would RP your OCs. But neh~

I keep replying with the idea of asking a friend to draw something for you , or write a description!! It's text based RP after all! I personally think even a bad drawing is better than taking some one else's, but that is just me.

I was trying to say that non-OC characters are harder than OC. Too many people don't do them well enough. I was not trying to imply that original characters were easy in any way. I would prefere interpretation be done in fanfiction or on your own, because everyone else has a different interpretation usually.
Fanficiotn does not have to inflict itself on anyone. RPing involves at least two people (I hope) and thus other people may have to deal with any OOCness. I don't have to go and look at someone else's badfic, but I do occasionally have to see horrible RPers because they can't always be avoided.

I agree on writing a badfic means your shouldn't RP a character, but if you must do one, keep it to fanfic so that people have to search for it and doesn't assault random people. Bad characterization is bad no matter the medium.

Other people don't RP my OCs, I only I do. They play their own OCs.

40) There are very good fandom roleplayers out there, and there is a good deal of them who CAN do a character justice.
I'm usually a OC player and I usually draw them myself; but if someone wants to use a PB, why not?
Not everyone can draw, and not everyone knows someone who can draw for them.
I think the most upsetting thing on a RP, is actually someone who base a character off himself, and even worst when they're mary sues
