Could Captain America take Iron Man in a fight? I mean, I know the shield can at least reflect small lasers and Steve is really fast. But couldn't Tony just pick him up, fly up really high, and drop him? Or fly him into space?

It's like the Batman vs Superman argument except somehow stupider

Lol.

(Also I don't really know what to do with the argument that Tony doesn't suffer any consequences for being an asshole. . .)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
In TA proper he doesn't really. He "dies", but that's framed as a noble sacrifice rather than a consequence of his assholery.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
When does he suffer consequences for being an asshole in the Iron Man pictures? Not for being overconfident, mind you, but for his actual habit of treating other people like shit on an interpersonal level? ISTR three movies of people just making excuses for him.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
TA proper?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure being pitched out a thirty-somethingth storey window should count. He survives because his prototype engages at the last minute, but that 1) had to hurt and 2) was probably fucking terrifying.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He pretty much put himself in that situation though? Like, that was the best possible outcome, what did he think was going to happen there?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...And?

He was a mouthy asshole. He was thrown out of a window for being a mouthy asshole. Consequences for being an asshole are by definition something the person facing them has provoked through deliberate action.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So it's Tonys fault loki tried to kill him?

Uh. I'd hesitate to categorize that particular decision as an example of assholery, unless you mean it in the sense of being an asshole to those you love by being reckless with your life.

He made a tactically idiotic decision, got in a bad spot, but still came out on top while making the villain look like an idiotic. Hardly getting his comeuppance there, more like yet another eye-roll worthy Tony Stark moment in a film already full of them.

Um, he came out of that situation totally unharmed and looking cool on top of it.

Do you know what a consequence is?

[personal profile] likeadeuce 2015-04-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
But I mean the consequences of his assholery is people reacting to him like he's an asshole? Also 'we're talking about Tony Stark's character but not in any of the Iron Man movies is a little ???

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Because anon doesn't want to see him face consequences for his actions, they want to see him beaten to a bloody pulp. Dressing it up as him getting his just deserts just sounds better.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Cap has a long history of taking down superpowered opponents. In the 60s and 70s it got so if you even said "He's just an ordinary man!" or called him a "glorified acrobat" they'd cancel your supervillain insurance immediately.

Cap doesn't lose fights. As Kurt Busiek put it, "Superheroes are gods on some level, and Captain America is the god of winning."

So yeah, I'm with OP on this one. Cap would have taken Iron Dick apart piece by piece.

I would love if Captain America could win. But if you put Captain America and Iron Man in the middle of a desert by themselves, Captain America would not win.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The shield, thrown with enough forced, can slice things in half, including robots. He could totally win (although it's still unlikely.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Kingpin beat him up and would have killed him if Falcon didn't come to the rescue.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
But TONY STARK TURNS ALL OF THE DISNEY PRINCES GAY.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but Thor didn't beat Iron Man using his damn hammer. Do you think somehow think Cap could beat Thor?

That's taking hero worship to an extreme.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thor didn't beat Cap either, using that same hammer. In fact, he knocked himself flat trying.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't Thor fail to beat the crap out of Iron Man with his mighty hammer? if so, I think Cap would.

Well, in that battle in the forest, they were all evenly matched (iirc).

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It looked more like Tony was getting pretty rekt and would have no doubt been destroyed by Thor if Cap hadn't showed up to stop him. Unless you're not talking about the MCU.

There's an animated movie put out by Marvel which pits them against each other, and they fight to a draw, iirc. I think it's mostly because they didn't want to tip the scales one way or another for various reasons, but if you accept that as some sort of canon, it's canonical that Cap can at least hold his own.
