Re: Unleash your anxieties here!

My mom has had three different cancer diagnoses in the last four or so years, and the most recent doesn't really have a cure, just palliative treatment. If she survives long enough, neither of the other cancers come back, she doesn't develop any new ones, and she stays sober, she might be eligible for a transplant. But her odds aren't good; as yet another doctor put it yesterday, treating her cancer is like playing whack-a-mole. Only it feels like whack-a-landmine. If she doesn't sober up or her body can't stand the treatment, she has maybe six months to live. She's my only close friend and I'm hers.

I've got other shit going on, but that's the big one.

I'm really sorry you're going through that.

Talking about palliative care is hard, because you're just never really ready for it. My mum wasn't either at the time, and she was in denial about ending treatment and kept saying she would start again when she got her strength back. I think I was in denial as well, because even when I was helping her sit up to eat and drink, I still couldn't believe she wouldn't get better or there wouldn't be more time.

She was my best friend, and she raised me, and she was the only person in my family I was really close to. It's just awful beyond any words to watch someone you love get sick like this.

I wish I could say something to make this easier for you. I should know what to say, but then I think about it and nothing anyone said to me really made it better. I'm here if you want to talk though, even if it's just venting about doctors being idiots or that person who keeps taking a piece out of the puzzles in the waiting room in the oncology ward so you can't finish them.
