Really, even if they find an excellent cast, I don't think they can catch the zeitgeist that made RHPS what it was.

Yeah, this just wouldn't work. It would be too 'modern', and RHPS really relies on being a 70's pastiche of 50s horror.

On the one hand, this will never work. There's just ... It's a send-up of 50s B-movies, which would be a harder sell to current audiences, it doesn't have much shock value anymore, casting Frankenfurter & Riff-Raff in particular is going to be difficult, it's ... I don't even know who their planned audience is? I don't know why they'd pick this of all movies to remake.

But on the other hand, and on a completely shallow note, I totally wouldn't mind watching, say, Chris Hemsworth wander around in confusion and gold lamé underwear as Rocky for half an hour or so. Just. You know. Saying.

It's important to remake unusual films in order to achieve a uniform standard of blandness. Who can be bothered to watch a scary, crazy, touching, tragic, rage-inducingly effective portrait of high school savagery like Brian De Palma's 1976 Carrie when they can just...sit through a generic "horror" version from 2013 that comes off as a really confused superhero origin story by the end? Weird movies are just too much fun, which is very dangerous. Tone it down, guys, sheesh.

I had the same reaction (NO) to the announcement back in 2009 that Disney was planning a CGI version of Yellow Submarine. Fortunately, they cancelled the project less than two years later. I hope the same happens with this Rocky Horror project.

Remakes: Present-day Hollywood's answer to the question no one asked.
