Do you know someone else's big secret? What's something someone else told you in confidence?

Multiple other women have told me about their rape experiences [and no, I didn't ask prior to it.]

I know that one teacher I had ended up in the US because a drug cartel literally told her "You have 24 hours to leave to country or else" with a picture of their kids as the "or else".

One of my friends can't go home because - when her husband defected from Cuba her country decided that she had defected from them as well and will arrest her if she ever goes back - so her children will never meet their grandparents on either side.

Er, I should note that I am leaving the specific details they wouldn't want known out, so the women in question wouldn't be too upset about this being posted.

My mother told me about her rape experience. And she can't understand why I won't forgive my uncle. She has. But she's my mother, and I have a very protective personality. Every time I hear his name I want to punch him.

Yes. For some reason people tell me their secrets. No idea why because I think I have a resting bitch face.

People tell me secrets all the time.

Once in high school a girl in my class, who I maybe had one conversation with prior to this, told me that she was pregnant (at 16) before she told anyone else, including the baby daddy and her best friend.

We help out baby multiples offline. Secrets are basically the order of the day, since most of them desperately need to maintain a singlet facade for work, school, or family purposes. And in the process, I usually end up learning a lot about their trauma histories--not because they want to tell me, but because they need information about it.

A friend confided that she's thinking of getting a divorce. I am all in favor of it because her husband is a controlling douchebag, but I don't think she'll actually go through with it. I'm still worried he'll find out she's thinking about it (because he has NO respect for peoples' privacy) and will get angry or do something terrible. I've told her that she can call me anytime no matter what and I will come get her.

Still trying to distance myself from dude at work. He keeps trying to confide in me (about work problems which he started) and I'm just frantically HOWS THAT WEATHER stop confusing in me at work about work I'm not taking sides the majority if the office doesn't know and I just want to do my job :(

One of my uncles was arrested once for inappropriate touching of a minor. It was actually my mother who told me this, telling me to never tell anyone else. I have zero interest in lying about it, but so far, it's never been necessary to mention, since he rarely leaves his house and has no contact with children.

I know in the event of a nuclear attack on the United States, it's not the President who makes the decision of how to respond. It's an undisclosed member of the military.

My mother and my sister have a bad relationship, and they both have different versions of why. So I hear from both about them about the horrible things the other said or did. I try to stay out of it, but since I'm known as a good listener I'm the person in the family everyone rants to.

well, okay, the worst was when a guy i worked with on a project basically told me his wife was raped, and the way he talked about it he also had fantasies about offing the guy who did it that were rather...executable.

I ge that he wanted to vent, he was very distraught about it, but I did feel he breached his wife's privacy, and honestly if you're in any way or form planning a genuine revenge plan I want nothing to do with it.

Also I accidentally found out my mom had an abortion prior to having me...but mostly what makes that weird is that I didn't hear it from her.

I know someone who was sexually assaulted as a teen by a famous, respected, and beloved author (now dead).

I'd never name him, because I was asked not to. But I feel sick every time I see him quoted and lauded. Even though I used to love his work.

Fuck, now I want to know.

Aw, man. I'm sorry for your friend, Anon. That's a really sad, awful thing to happen.

I have a friend who spent 10 years of her life in a high security psychiatric hospital. Has some extremely traumatic stories. Being forced to socialize with serial killers and pedophiles for instance. And also met people who've gone through things you wouldn't want to imagine, and I wouldn't want to describe.

Yes. A while back, one of my best friends told me about something that happened in her family that was really upsetting to her. From when I spoke with her recently, things are in a better spot for everyone involved (or so it was implied, anyways).

Otherwise, I don't like being trusted with secrets. It's just how I am, ahaha. (I'm a really secretive person m'self)

Yes, I know more than a few. I teach at the college level, so I sometimes hear things about my students' personal lives. The saddest one ever was a young woman who confided in me that her father, who was in a position of authority, had been accused of child molestation. Student's life was, understandably, in turmoil.

Several times. One acquaintance from secondary school confided with me about his girlfriend and their turbulent relationship, sometimes erring on the sexual. Thing is, he's a Malay Muslim who's bigger than me, and things like this aren't usually talked about over here. In fact, I think it's almost a taboo.

Another time involved significant others taking drugs, though thankfully not in addiction-like quantities. One of my close relations tried to steal, and another one ran away from her home to ours due to bad family relations. We let her sleep on the couch as all the mattresses were already used.

It's so old she probably wouldn't care if I told, but still, lips are sealed.

The amount of someone else's big secrets I know are uncountable at this point.

They range from rape and molestation, to fantasies about murder and suicide to theft, property damage, unfaithfulness, unprotected sex while knowingly HIV+, lying about pregnancies, knowingly contributing to someone's wrongful dismissal, false rape accusations, desires to have sex with animals...

I could go on. I will not go on, however.

A girl I knew in high school got pregnant, and she tried to avoid the expense and embarrassment of a proper abortion by using "natural" methods, i.e. herbal abortofacients.

Wound up having to see a doctor anyway, to have bits of necrotic fetal tissue removed from her uterus before they killed her.

My second ex told me something about himself that he told me to never tell anyone. I never have. I keep my promises, even if I don't like the person I made them to.

I knew who JewWario was in a relationship with. And it wasn't his wife as they were having marital problems. Reason why he seemed happy with her was a front, so as not to worry or alienate his fans.

Needless to say, the lady he was seeing was shattered when she got a call from the police about his death. So was I.
