What? But don't you know rape fantasies/BDSM/Whatever is totally supporting rape culture! /sarcasm

Seriously though, I agree OP. As long as you aren't inflicting it on other people* it's not a problem.

*And no, reading and/or writing fic about it isn't inflicting it on someone else as long as it's warned for

This is a debate going on in the Sherlock or Hannibal fandom right now. Not sure which.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I'm sort of half-in-half-out of the Sherlock fandom, and I can't say I've seen anything like that going on. I might just not be delving far enough to find it, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's for sure going on in Sherlock fandom.

Sherlock fandom. An extensive writeup, for anyone else who wants to rubberneck.

jfc, what a trainwreck.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit. I got out of this fandom at exactly the right time, seems like.

OMG. I used to follow a couple of those people. I didn't realize they were crazy.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
GDI Tumblr, liking fics of stuff is not the same as liking it real life. Why must you insist on ignoring that?

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2015-04-23 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
... Holy shit. D:

I've seen some fandom wank, but that's a straight up trainwreck.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, WTF is going on with people on tumblr constantly linking pedophilia to everything?

Incest ships: pedophilia!
Noncon/dubcon: pedophilia!
Ships with large age differences: pedophilia!

It's like they want so badly for people to be as offended as possible that they jump to the most offensive thing they can think of and tack it onto everything they dislike.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
SA

Oh, wow, and apparently, BDSM = pedophilia, too!

What the fucking fuck.

Like I am actually fucking angry at this.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
....wait, what? That's...wow. And tumblr wonders why people think it's full of cray cray.

Yep. You've hit the nail on the head, here.

It's making me really, really angry. Pedophilia is a specific and terrible thing. Pedophiles who act on their desires cause real harm to real children. Using pedophilia this way is fucking offensive as all shit, and is a slap in the face to people who've actually been victims of it.

They can bleet about "rape apologists" all they want. They're the ones exploiting the suffering of fucking children to justify harassing people they don't like.

Add "a character looks young" to the list.

I'm seething. This is so unbelievably awful. These people are rotten.

This actually reminds me of civil rights debates.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
The people against granting whatever rights (or, you know, actually acknowledging other people are, well, people) always bring up animals - "What are we going to do next, give animals the right to vote?", "If we make this legal, the next thing you know, people will be wanting to marry animals."

And I know it's a derailing tactic, a false slippery-slope argument, and a way to equate women/minorities/LGBT with animals, but it always makes me cringe.

Sadly, that doesn't surprise me. Some people just do not seem to get the concept of fiction=/= reality and/or someone liking something in fiction=/=liking or wanting it in RL.
sapphireblack: (Avon/Servalan)

[personal profile] sapphireblack 2015-04-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
To me it's much like enjoying horror films. Doesn't mean I want to be in a RL version of one!
nightscale: Starbolt (Disney: SUPERSTITCH)

[personal profile] nightscale 2015-04-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no you silly goose. Liking horror films means that you want to find yourself in that exact situation one day, or even orchestrate one! Clearly you are a very problematic person.
sapphireblack: (The Master)

[personal profile] sapphireblack 2015-04-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well now you come to mention it, I have had fantasies about putting certain politicians in a reality show remake of the Saw movies...

Yeah, but a lot of people [particularly on tumblr, despite how much people hate hearing that] don't seem to get the concept - or willfully ignore it.

Urgh, I fucking hate that. Especially since it implies that I can't tell the difference between consensual kinky sex and rape and need some Helpful Normal Person to inform me. Gee, thanks, Helpful Normal Person! Now get the fuck out of my bed!

Heh, this and the later comment on roleplaying remind me of a writeup I found on BRPS once. Community with no hard content rules, but generally pretty soft. New poster comes in and immediately posts a horrific prompt in the general forum without any warnings whatsoever. (Seriously, it was pretty messed-up even by BRPS standards.) First respondent posts that he smothers her character with a pillow to make the noises stop, and she calls him a meanie and leaves the forum forever.

AYRT

Yeah, that's actually why - if I'm looking for a partner - I'll always post that I do have limits [and make sure to discuss them prior to rp stating] because the rp community does have some people who take advantage of that kind of thing.

Between that and the rp partner I had who started writing a scene where their character raped mine without asking I was cool with it first are why I'm *huge* on warnings for that stuff.
