(Anonymous) 2015-04-27 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)To be fair, nine years is time enough to be embarrased by what you've said, but I've never heard him distance himself from it.
(Honestly, if he finally put out another sequel to Those Who Walk in Darkness, I'd still read it. Bad people can still be good writers.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)Has anyone ever reminded him of it for him to distance himself? Is it possible he's letting it lie there like everyone's embarrassing fanfiction from when they were 14? Can we hope

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 12:01 am (UTC)(link)UrbanDictionary says:
New Black
Term coined by Will Pharrell during an Oprah interview. Mostly used in online communities, like Tumblr. New Black meaning, black people who do not believe in racism and/or do not blame white people for racism, don't hold racism accountable for any troubles in their lives.
Many jokes about New Blacks include comparing them to upper-class white people.
"If he says he dislikes black people, does he also mean new black?"

Well, there's female MRAs and g0ys, why wouldn't there be these folks too? Still, as someone who was raised in Texas, I can not FATHOM the idea of people not being aware that racism exists.

(Same OP as the John C. Wright secret! I liked Orson Scott Card, too!)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 04:19 am (UTC)(link)I think we need to read this so there's some context. Ridley's use of the N-word is bombastic and ugly. This isn't even Chris Rock's use of it. However, while I don't agree with what Mr. Wright is saying, he makes some valid points. All of which make his use of that word even more damning because it's hard to hear him over that damn, disgusting word.
Long story short: Ridley is talking about black people who do not try to advance themselves, who revel in the culture of "Keepin' it real" and tell others to "Stop Snitching." These people are real and they do hold all of us back. But they really are a minority within a minority and they aren't near as large or as powerful as he claims.
I'm not a conservative so I find him quite disagreeable and, dare I say it, on the edge of Uncle Tom Foolery, but I think too many of you are writing him off just because he used the N-word. You don't have to agree with what he said and I fully welcome you disparaging how he said it, but he has valid things to say.
