Doctor Who

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Two random discussion questions:

1) What character who was not a companion would you must want to see as a companion? From anytime in Doctor Who, living or dead.

2) What companion would you most want to see paired with a Doctor they never actually interacted with?

Oh, Sally Sparrow.

Hm... Donna and Eleven could be fun.

1) Rita, from The God Complex. She kicked ass, and the fact that she was a believer in religion would have made her an interesting companion, I think.

2) Well, Donna and Five, most obviously, but that's just cause I kinda ship it. For just gallivanting around... Clara and Seven?

1) I liked Rory's dad or Psi and Saibra from Time Heist
2) Martha and Eleven (or 12 or 9 or ...)

Ditto on Psi and Saibra! I really liked them a lot.

Also seconding you on Martha. I'd love to see her interact with Eleven or Twelve.

Rory's dad was great but that's just because he was played by Mark Williams.

Karra the Cat-woman from Survival. She would have made an awesome companion and not just because she was a lesbian cat-woman. It would have also meant they had to do more space-based stories or at least more future based stories though.

Best Companion/Doctor mash up. I'd have loved to see Frobisher-Ten (or Frobisher-War Doctor) a comedy penguin with a degree of sarcasm would be just the ticket to play off those more tetchy guys, a waddling Alfred to keep their more self-important and self-destructive qualities in line.

Edit: I'd also like to have kept Adam for a little while longer. I know Nine was particularly prickly and short-tempered, but I can't help but feel Adam got the short end of the stick. Other incarnations of the Doctor would have cut him more slack and been willing to work him up a little to see if they could rescue him from himself rather than just dumping him back into the timestream with a hole in his head.

Karra seems to be a fun character. I didn't get that far into Sixth's era so never seen her before.

Survival's a Seventh Doctor serial, not Sixie. And it is pretty far into his era... (it's the last Seventh Doctor serial, and therefore also the last serial of classic Who).

I would strongly recommend getting into the Seventh Doctor stuff, I'm a big fan of it. There's some really intelligent, entertaining writing at times. Also, Seven rules, and also Ace totally rules.

I meant Seven, no idea why I wrote Six, haha.
Thanks for the info. I might watch these last eps as I've no problem watching tv out of order. I liked Ace in a couple of episodes I've seen her in.

I would say at the very least Remembrance of the Daleks and then all four season 26 serials (Battlefield, Ghost Light, Curse of Fenric, and Survival) are worth watching. And, really, mostly pretty fantastic.

I also enjoy a lot of the earlier ones - I love Delta and the Bannermen, and Dragonfire and Happiness Patrol have their moments - but those are maybe more of an... acquired taste.

The only downside to Curse of Fenric is you have to have watched Dragonfire (which is okay apart from the very literal cliffhanger) and Silver Nemesis (which is a hot festering mess) to get the most of it. It was an experiment in arc based story telling before anyone at the BBC had worked out how to do a a multi-season story arc.

I think I stopped at Dragonfire, I remember the title.)

I want more Wilf, and I'd kinda like to see him with Twelve.

1) Rose's mom.
2) Fitz and Five because Five is calm where Eight is excitable and also because Five sorely needs some cool companions.

1. Hmmmm. Young!Amy if she counts. Otherwise maybe Danny just because I wanted him to live and because him in the Tardis with the Doctor and Clara would have been awesome.

2. Donna and Eleven. Or Amy and Ten. Or Donna and Twelve or Amy and Twelve. River and Twelve, though she doesn't really count as a companion.
