I do think there's this frustrating dynamic where, when a named user has had to deal with stalk-y hater anon, it becomes harder to criticize them for being dumb when they are dumb.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I would blame the stalky anon more than the user there, I can understand why they'd be on the defensive if someone is stalking them

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh absolutely, I'm just saying the dynamic can get frustrating at times

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Besides jaybie's case, it's pretty obvious that it's multiple anons fed up with a user's bullshit. They've just made it seem like it's just one anon because that's how they win argumenting, by dismissing every complaint as a dumb stalker anon.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Being one voice among many who are critical and fed up of the behavior of some logged in users, I can vouch for this.

+1

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
This. Even with Jaybie it was obvious there were more than one anon.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
The worst part is when a logged in user makes a comment, then there are three or four comments immediately after them with the exact same syntax agreeing. Logged in users abuse the hell out of the anon system to make it look like they have more support than they do.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, anyone can abuse the anon system that way, anons or logged in users alike.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
But only real anons get accused of it. No one ever is allowed to point out when a named user is doing it, because you just get a load of abuse and called jelly or wanting to get your way. Yet when a named user throws accusations around, then it gets treated like serious business regardless of how obvious it is they are spouting bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I never said it was fair, just that it was possible.

I'd be happy with this comm going all-logged-in for that very reason. It's not that hard to make a sock account. But then again, it's not that hard to make SEVERAL sock accounts either.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
SA

Or to clarify I never said the practice was fair. The ability to use it is fair game, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
How do you know it's "real" anons getting accused of it? Any of the anons accused of that stuff could be named users who are signed out.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
That happens with anon comments sometimes too, though?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
How is it better if a group of anons is going around harassing a user and telling them to die? Isn't that worse?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. This is how it works:

Multiple people harassing one person is not stalking.
One person harassing one other person is stalking.
Stalking is bad.
Things other than stalking are not bad.

ergo

Multiple people harassing one person is not bad.
One person harassing one other person is bad.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
One person continuously harassing one other person is bad and harassment.

Multiple people continuously harassing one person is bad and harassment and bullying.

I can buy that it was two or three anons instead of one. I can't buy that it was 20 different anons, each for a different time who only did it once.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
But you must buy it! For the good of Anon!

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
there's probably a couple of people who bothered certain users more than once, but if a certain user is abrasive or especially pompous, it's pretty likely random anons won't take kindly to that

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not take kindly =/= tell them they're a waste of life and should die every time they post.

I don't think it's stalking to say something someone said was stupid but the level of vitriol directed at jaybie esp wrt autism was honestly awful.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Besides jaybie, when has that happened? dethtoll was fedora tipped for a year, but I'm pretty sure no other user has gotten reoccuring death threats with any noticable frequency.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Only one of the anons zeroed in on the autism. The other two (at least two others) went after her fanficcing and general insecurity about that.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Jaybie really brought that shitstorm on themselves with their over the top reaction. That pile on was their own doing and they deserve very little sympathy for it. Especially with their repeated flounces. If you flounce and come back, you are pretty much asking people to try and provoke you into flouncing again. She should have just made a new account a lot sooner than she did after flouncing.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no. Jaybie didn't deserve any of that bullshit.

I will have to agree with the latter comments on anons being dismissed easily, some of the reason I went ~full named~ was because it was so frustrating for all my comments to be dismissed out of hand or ignored because I was anon. I just wanted to participate in discussions!

(This was a few years back right after some ridiculous anti-anon drama and you couldn't have a single discussion without certain users jumping to the "you're an anon so I don't need to believe anything you say" defence. Which is stupid, useless bunk.)

Even now remembering it is frustrating.

Anons are awesome. Keep on keep on-ing.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It is annoying that case won't take it seriously, that is for sure. I'm sure half the hijinks that happen on here wouldn't happen if case would take it a bit more seriously. People always act out more if they are being ignored.
