Fitness people

What's a good bodyweight workout routine? There are a billion guides on the internet and I've no idea which are good or bad. Help :(

Good: what you feel comfortable doing.

Bad: what is unrealistic for you.

Push ups, planks, lunges, pull ups, chin ups, etc. are standard... but those may all take a while to build up to. Try stuff out and see if it's realistic for you to accomplish.

That's helpful general advice but akin to advising someone to run until they don't feel like running any more. It doesn't tell them what's good, a good standard, or what to aim for.

That's because there is no standard "what to aim for" unless you already know someone's baseline fitness. I don't know what OP is capable of, so I can only advise them to do what they are capable of with the goal of increasing it gradually.

If someone expresses an interest in sci fi but doesn't give you any other baseline, it's possible to rec what is basically seen as good or popular- which is what OP is asking for, seeing how they asked for examples of good routines- without knowing anything else about them. Telling them to "read about spaceships, aliens, time travel, and what they like" isn't exactly answering their request as to which series are good or bad in everyone else's opinion.

A good routine for total beginners? A good routine for the moderately active? A good routine for advanced fitness? OP didn't ask for The One True Best Ever. I'm just saying, it's really easy to dismiss OP's question and say do whatever makes you feel good, but that's probably why they have the question in the first place.

But I did recommend the most effective body weight exercises there are.

Oh god fucking chin ups. Those are my goddamn BANE. Even at my most fit, I could only do one.

OP

Don't have a bar for pull-ups, can't install one :(

I've been doing the others but I've no idea what's considered a decent number or what level of fitness they make me

If you have a playground near you they might have a bar that can be used. That is what my SO does since we can't install a bar in our current place.

Depends on your age, sex, and weight but the president's challenge fitness charts are fairly good standard for the average American citizen who would like to attain a moderate healthy fitness level.

http://twentypullups.com/

http://www.twohundredlunges.com/ (recommend calf raises using this program)

Just test yourself like the program suggests and follow the category you fall into accordingly.

Thank you, these look fun :D

No pull-up bar to test on, but apparently I can do two push-ups and 75+ lunges, I sense a huge imbalance here lol

Well, pretty much everybody who doesn't work out is going to have stronger legs than arms, because you lift a heavy weight with your legs every day regardless (i.e. yourself) ;p

Neither do I! I jog to a local playground and just use their monkey bars. When I wasn't near a playground with monkey bars I used the swingset frame. Anything strong enough to hold your body weight and small enough to get a good grip on is good enough for pull-ups or chin-ups. Inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSglftsQgoc

I'm also pretty sure there are other sites like "100 situps" etc. out there if you want to try more exercises, too.

Check out the website Be a Game Character. They have loads of amazing workouts for people from beginning to advanced levels.

And they tailor workouts according to what kind of video game character you want to be like.
