Rant, worry, complain

Rant threads are cathartic. Have at it.

I love genderswap shipping fic (where one dude is swapped to a lady but the other dude is left a guy) but hate most canon het pairings.

I'm tired of having to deal with the "misogyny" argument.

If I don't like your favorite female character that doesn't mean I hate women as a whole.

Re: Rant, worry, complain

(Anonymous) 2015-05-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear that. I mean I love genderbending where a dude becomes a lady, but if you don't immediately shriek about how that makes them trans* and they should always be miserable and never happy then you get all but burnt alive in current fandom. Some folks just don't get the difference between fantasy-fiction and actual real life.

I have misplaced an important but small part of my sewing machine. I'm the person who took it off and then put it somewhere and now I can't find it, and I need to sew. Ugh, why am I such a dumbass?

Also, my bank card stopped working for the third time this year. Went to the bank to ask about it, and they were as dumbfounded as me. Getting a fourth card. Seriously considering changing banks.

Argh. My boss. Why did I ask him to write my reference letter? I told him I needed it by today. He texted me last night to say he wouldn't have it ready until tomorrow. I'm now going to have to pay extra to express ship my application.

Send passive aggressive polite emails detailing everyone involved, times, dates etc so they know you've got the evidence.

If they ignore that and give no response after a week or two start dropping hints about union/lawyer/preferred method

Worrying about my parents only shows that getting old sucks. I'm the caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer's and each day is something just a little different. Then there is my father who lives many states away, recovering from back surgery but in the meantime is in so much pain he doesn't do the physical therapy exercises and lies that he is doing them. At least his brother is there to help look after him. But I just want to say look dad, mom doesn't have the ability to voice her issues, she's losing motor function and memories and it scares her beyond belief. Dad, you have your memory intact and can choose to get better by doing exercises, eat food and not rely on pain meds.

I'm not going to have parents that grow old and die gracefully. It's going to be done by their bodies turning against them.

My mother is so fucking paranoid if I didn't know better I'd assume it was some kind of mental illness.

But no, it's just a symptom of being an arch-conservative :/

I don't think anyone on LJ is really reading my fic, and I don't know how to ask without sounding butthurt.

I mean, it's really a bit of a waste of time to bother posting it if not.

[personal profile] blitzwing 2015-05-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you could put a stat counter in one of your fic updates? I've seen some writers on LJ do that. There are invisible ones if you're not comfortable with people seeing it.

Why not post to other archives like ff.net or ao3 so you can see the hits and people can give kudos? Kudos are my only indication that people read and like my fic,

I'm afraid when we actually spend significant time together over the summer my normally long distance girlfriend will dump me when she realizes just how bad my depression really is, and I don't think I could blame her if she did.

Hey, I'm sorry. That sucks.

Have you considered talking to a mental health professional? I'd strongly encourage it.

My little sister's husband is an asshole. He's mean to kids and dogs. He doesn't work, just sits around all day--he's supposed to be going back to school (he dropped out to follow her when she transferred to a different university, before they got married), but he keeps putting it off. He's a complete know-it-all and has nothing positive to say about anything. But she's wild about him, and it's caused a real rift between her and our parents, because obviously they're crazy concerned but aren't very tactful about it. It just makes me sad. She's a really fun and caring person, and she deserves so much better.

My parents are like really, really into the local right-wing party and it's getting worse. Like first it was just my dad, now they both go to meetings. My dad has their tag line on his e-mail flair. And the amount of intolerant shit they are spouting had definitely increased. What bothers me more is that my dad has already made several attempts to pull me into it and it creeps me the fuck out. He tells me it might help me job-wise to know some of these people, and even if that were true, it would still creep me out. I want nothing to do with it.

And like the really insane things. These are the people who are going to take away unemployment benefits I'm currently receiving. Also they're really anti-immigrant while my parents are - you guessed it - immigrants. It's insane.

I asked for the address to go to for an interview, but was told I'd get it in an email. The email never arrived, and my attempt to call back wound up with me talking to a confused restaurant employee. I have no idea what happened, but the appointment is tomorrow and I still don't know where it is or even who it's with. (The first person I talked to said the company's acronym, but I couldn't parse it through the bad connection.)

Recently I've been kind of concerned that a lot of my newer fictional crushes are way too young for me to be crushing on. They're not real people, but it's still super weird to me and I have no idea why/how I even like them in the first place.

Re: Rant, worry, complain

(Anonymous) 2015-05-05 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
My friend's Twitter and Tumblr accounts are shit. They're very much of the "reblog first, maybe stumble across the debunking post later if it's a good day" persuasion, and the shit they propagate... Ugh. Very into the calling out of people a million social and fandom circles away from them, with no reason too picky or too outdated. I can't say a thing about it to them, though, because they have anxiety out the wazoo and make sure we all know how each and every day was already ruined.

I'm too close to really get away with unfollowing, so I stick to Not Reading (on account of Don't Like) and cultivating a lovely side account away from anybody who knows me. I just wish I could talk to them about it without it turning into a massive thing.

I can't decide if I should reply to some Tweets or not. I vented about the fan base for a TV show, and to my surprise someone replied. (Normally even with hash tags my Tweets are ignored.) The person included a :P in their response that stated that they hate me. I replied back stating that the emoji showed me that person had a narrow view of the show (which is why I can't stand the fans). The person replied back. I am considering letting this person have the last word because I need to save my brain cells for job training (instead of wasting them on Tweets). On the other hand, not replying makes me feel like a coward. Blegh.

Ugh, have to work with a lady tonight who is stubborn to the nth degree and hates it when I come to call in numbers. She got angry about that one night last week and my people were like, "So? Call in the numbers. She doesn't do it in a timely manner, so you can do it."

URGH HATE THIS WOMAN.
