(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)Bluh, suicide encouragement.
Look guys, I don't care if you think someone is "the worst ever". There' s no need for this bullshit, and it hardly makes you look good. Regardless of how awful you think the other person is, you're just making yourself an asshole for their sake. Is that really what you want to do?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)Here, it just shows how trollish and/or young you are. Grow up.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-11 12:15 am (UTC)(link)Using the 'they are just words' justification has always baffled me. Words are the basis for laws and contracts and treaties. They are the basis for a great deal of entertainment. They are how most people communicate with others. Words can let other people know what you are thinking. Words are a tool to convince other people to agree with you or to show them how to do something or to show them new ideas. Words are powerful. And words can absolutely hurt. There is no 'just' about them.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)Sit down, edgy mc edge. I'm sorry you are so incredibly maladjusted that you think this is okay. But it's not "Policing" when people are telling you not to be an ass. You're just trying to come up with excuses for why you should be able to be as rotten as you want without consequence.
Don't act like this is about 'free speech" or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)There has always been policing of languages and phrases. People like you know this, because you live and work in the real world and you know what you can and can't say in social situations and at the workplace. Like everybody else, you even feel uncomfortable when someone says something that's not appropriate. You've probably gotten upset or annoyed with someone for saying a lot of rude things. You've probably even cut people out of your life because it seems like every time they open their mouth, something stupid or dickish comes out. But then you come on the internet and say "this isn't a hug box" and "it's only words."
It's not about it being "only words" or about it being a hug box, that's the thing. It's about you wanting to be able to say things that don't fit the standards of the community. You want to be able to be rude and not face any consequences for it, so you say things like this, even as you'll happily observe other social courtesies that are equally arbitrary and equally policing. In other words, you're a hypocrite and a dick.

It is totally fish in barrels, but you'd think the newbs would lurk more for more creative trolling.

I know right? People have probably been saying "kill yourself" to rile someone since Roman times. If not longer. It makes me almost miss the troll with the insult generator.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)You honestly don't see why making "kill yourself" a common expression is a very very very BAD idea? Sure maybe it will start as being 'just for people who are ignorant or 'deserve it' but if it gets common enough, people will pick it up, teenage kids and others will pick it up and use it on other kids. The way insults often do.
Why shouldn't we take telling someone to kill themselves literally rather than hand waving it?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)You don't know who anons you're replying to are. You don't know if they struggle with suicidal thoughts or urges. Real harm can be done by these kinds of comments.
