Things you liked as a kid no one else seems to have heard of

Because it can't just be me, right?

Gopher Cakes commercials

They made me so damn hungry. I never realized they were exercise PSAs. I just wanted the fucking Gopher Cakes. But no one seems to remember those commercials (at least in real life).

*Looks up on YouTube*

Yeah, I've definitely never seen those, but wow they are deliciously 90's.

- The Purple Moon/Rockett computer games. (admittedly I realize now that a lot of the characters were stereotypical*, and the fact that it was created for the sole purpose of "girl games" bugs me - if I'd known that then I would never have played).

*A native american character named Wolf (and another one named Arrow), a latina character named Viva, the super brainy kid was Japanese...

- Pepper's Adventures in Time (another computer game). Probably part of why I was so obsessed with hippies.

- Sweet Valley Twins - everyone always talks about Sweet Valley High, but no one seems to have really read SVT. (I feel like Sweet Valley High was what the "cool kids" read. I was not one of the cool kids. So I read Sweet Valley Twins instead. Going by recaps I've read, I would've hated Sweet Valley High.)

I remember Sweet Valley Twins, but I only read one or two. Sweet Valley Twins was to Sweet Valley High as the Little Sister books were to the Babysitter's Club, weren't they?

OH AND I REMEMBER ROCKETT TOO.

I had like one game, but I don't remember the plot.

I never read SVH, it just felt too different so I stuck with SVT instead.

I loved Sweet Valley Twins. I was so young that they were way more appropriate than Sweet Valley High, but I did read the Sweet Valley High family books where it talked about the different women who came before the girls featured in the stories.

Barbie and the Rockers

I had a cassette tape growing up and I can still sing the songs. Every time we went to rent movies from the local VHS rental, I would always pick the Barbie movie.

When Nickelodeon played Pinwheel all day.

Computer Games like Cosmic Osmo and old Macintosh Hypercard games. I wish I could remember the names I played, such as one where you journeyed to a castle (and get lost in the dungeons and make the wrong turn when Godzilla comes out and stamps down Bambi), also a dark noir game too, I just remember the needles oddly enough.

I had this book of Native American tales called Aunt Mary Tell Me A Story. Honestly, for a while I questioned its existence!

TBH I'm sure I have plenty, but even I can't remember some of them well enough to describe them. Fluppy Dogs is one of these, though even with that...IDK what the shit it was about. There were dogs, they were fluffy and colorful, that's about all I know for sure.

this pc adventure game called something like "Flod the Bad Guy." I couldn't even find any existence of it on the internet for years, though I did eventually find one shitty forum post proving to me it did exist and it wasn't just me.

Space hoppers/moon hoppers/ hippety hops/whatever you want to call them. Maybe the number of names is what confuses people. (Mine was called a Big Bouncer. I got my bald spot by riding it down a staircase.)

There was a computer game I really liked called Gizmos and Gadgets that I was reminded of the other day. Part of it was sort of a platformer where you collected mechanical parts that you could build things with at the end of the level and there were minigames too I think.

I was also into a bunch of Barbie computer games that I've never heard anyone else talk about.

Best part of the show was "Run With Us."

An old anime called The Adventures of T-Rex. I only remember part of the opening, but they were a small group of T-rexes that transformed and fought monsters I think, it was a similar thing to Power Rangers.

Duck City! I used to play it a lot as a kid, but I don't think I've ever met anyone else who have.

There was a Saturday morning cartoon in the 80s, I can't remember the actual name of it but it was about horses...I think the main character was a horse called Wildfire? I have never heard of anyone else who ever saw this cartoon but it was my jam during that point in my childhood when I was legally required to be obsessed with horses/unicorns.

I'd love to find it and watch it again but I'll settle for just knowing I didn't hallucinate this show's existence.

Charmkins figures/dolls. They were basically the Polly Pocket of the 80's and not too many people remember it. I was obsessed with them as a kid. I had all the figures, comforter and other decorative merchandise, the VHS, everything I could get my grubby hands on.

Same thing for Sea Wee's, Cupcake Dolls, Cherry Merry Muffin. I was an odd child who liked her dolls to smell like those amazing smelly markers.

And Lil Miss Magic Hair, Lil Miss Make Up, Lil Miss Magic Jewels, Lil Miss Mermaid PJ Sparkles, Barbie heads/Color Change barbie, and fashion plates because I was way too into fashion dolls and anything fashion in the 80's and 90's.

two TV shows i loved as a kid that nobody remembers and there aren't any DVDs of:

Tomfoolery. animated version of Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll. Both those authors are from the Victorian era and therefore there should be no copywright issues, so why are there no DVDs of it? all I could find was one 10 minute clip on youtube.

The Curiosity Shop. Basically what would happen if Sesame Street was made for older kids by hippies. I could only find a three minute clip on youtube and most of that was opening credits. :(
