With the actual molestation, the law really can't do anything at this point. All the reported cases are falling outside of the statute of limitations, unfortunately. The cover-up though, some parts of that might actually be up for prosecution if definitive proof can be found and someone is willing to file charges.

Much as I hate to say it, I don't doubt he has continued molesting young girls, and if someone who was violated in the past five(?) years comes forward and presses charges, he can be prosecuted.

I very much hope TLC cancels their contract and these people become the social pariahs they deserve to be, at the very least. The entire Quiverfull movement is pretty creepy, and they deserve every inch of bad press they receive.

I hate that. There is no statute of limitations on murder, and I think it should be the same for rape or sexual assault (particularly when the victim was underage at the time).

Want to know something really sick? The statute of limitations is longer on theft than it is on sexual assault/rape in most states.

Yup. And you are more likely to get a higher sentence for drug crimes than for rape.

Another super-fun factoid: People who are convicted of sexual assault/rape are more likely to be eligible for parole than people who are found in possession of "minor" drugs like weed and prescription stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin. So the harmless person dealing dime bags out of their dorm room will get expelled and sent to prison for their full sentence, while someone who committed multiple sexual assaults will, if ever even brought up on formal charges (because colleges will cover it up, as we've seen) will usually just "be encouraged" to transfer to another college, or be given a much lighter sentence. Victims of sexual assault have even been slapped with slander charges, or threatened with "consequences" for making waves, such as being told they can be suspended from classes.

There was one case that went public where a rapist was ordered by an evaluation board to write an essay apologizing for his behavior, and the victim was expected to take that as punishment enough.

This makes me want to vomit. That's sick. Why do people care more about protecting rapists than the HUMAN BEINGS they prey on?

:C

Are there movements for statue of limitations to be abolished or increased?

We only had ours removed recently and only in relation to child sex but it's a start...I think they just started looking into it for disabled abuse thanks to recent events... (for my state, dunno about the others)

Even if there is, and the statute of limitations is abolished tomorrow in their state, I think it still falls into a sort of legal limbo. That said, because charges were not filed (?), it's possible if the limitations are abolished/extended, the victims who did not legally charge him beforehand could now. I'm not really sure how it would work. It depends on the state in question.

Even if it is removed, it can't be retroactive. So it would only apply to cases that happened after the statute of limitations was removed.

I thought this was the case, but wasn't sure.

I think PA made their child rape laws retroactive in reaction to the Sandusky case.
