Listen, I can appreciate the other two prequels, at least somewhat

But Phantom Menace really is just a phenomenonally bad movie, all feelings about Star Wars aside. It's just really poor

That's pretty much saying that they're trolling. If you're saying trolling is literally the ONLY reason someone would say something like that, you're basically accusing the person of being a troll.

I mean, TPM isn't my favorite, but I like it more than all of the original trilogy movies (and I love those films.)

I completely agree with you about the movie, but I think people can love a movie for reasons like nostalgia, the actors, certain action scenes that just work for them etc., without it having to be good. Could be something like that.

Some people legitimately think it's a good, enjoyable movie.

Like me for instance.

I really like the characters -- Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Padmé, Shmi, Anakin, Palpatine, even Jar Jar to some extent.

I think the movie lays down a really good foundation for subsequent films and I like watching Palpatine's plans unfold. The music is great and the action scenes are fun and well-shot and choreographed.

I'm not saying you have to like it, but I don't get why people feel the need to say that TPM isn't good. Sure you don't think it's good. But some people most certainly do.

And I don't understand how anyone can like Attack of the Clones. Now that's a hot mess of a movie that doesn't know what to do with it's plots, arringly cuts between emotional moods, and suffers from the stilted writing more than any other.

Revenge of the Sith is saved from a similar fate only by the fact that the action and emotional tension of the Republic's fall makes up for a lot.

Aside from the overlong pod race, Phantom Menace is a pretty good movie.

No one's asking you to understand it though. But some people do really like the move. It's my second favorite after Revenge of the Sith.

I actually think the cuts really work in its favor -- for example, the cut from Obi-Wan surveying the clone troops to Anakin and Padmé in front of the waterfall really works, even though there's an abrupt change in mood, because of what Anakin talks about (the Republic not functioning) and the implications down the line.

This. AotC, for me, would have been slightly better had the romance not been there.

I just wanted more Obi-Wan/Jango snark. And maybe seen Luminara actually have a part to play outside the tv show and books...

The only reason I watched TPM like 6 times in the theater. More than enough reason for me.

Yeah, it's just awful. The story is incomprehensible. (And it REEKS of geek, I hate all that Untouchable Female crap they make Amidala wear." I cringed when I saw that in the previews.)

I smell troll as well, a la "look at what a kicky independent free-thinker I am!"
