I don't quite get the seething hatred for the prequels - they were more boring and had a lot of bad choices than outright atrocious (Though the fact that there's such a big hullabaloo that spawned two different animated adaptations - one of which ran for at least 5 seasons - on top of the movie about the Clone Wars is baffling to me)

I'd rather watch A New Hope, the last hour of Empire Strikes Back, and Revenge of the Sith than any of the others.

Yeah, the seething hatred and ~~~outrage~~~ is some definite dumb nerd bullshit.

But at least for me, I think, they are kind of fascinating because they're bad in ways that end up being really interesting and illustrative. They somehow managed to end up being more interesting as failures than as movies, almost.

I would love to watch a documentary about them.

It's like this. Right after the first movies came out George Lucas said that in roughly twenty years time, after the original cast aged up, he was going to do more Star Wars movies. And fans jumped on board that train.

And then the sequels came out. Not only did they have a different cast but the scripts read like something churned out during a last minute all nighter, not the finely honed epics that Lucas had promised them to be.

So it was a combination of feeling bait and switched and having a massive case of expectation let down.

Ah. Honestly, I just watched all of these for the first time last month.
