?????????????????????????

why do you have to expend energy on being feminist? that's possibly the more ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. you just are feminist. just say you are feminist if you agree in equality for all people. there you go. nothing to it.

maybe they're confused by the people who are very extroverted about their feminism and thinks that to be feminist you have to decry misogyny in public often and loudly?

i don't know. that line just got to me. like, you can't have ideals or beliefs unless you expend energy on them? so, i'm not liberal if i don't volunteer for the democratic party? it's stupid.

I agree.
really, all I can think is that they're surrounded by extremely vocal feminists and maybe they feel like they have to 'live up to it' or something.
I mean I'm a feminist, but I don't bother posting on facebook about every issue that comes up. More power to my friends who do.

What the hell does "being extroverted about feminism" even mean?

Agreed, though some members of this community might flip out on you for daring to "impose labels" on them or something, because they "don't identify with feminism" as they are generalizing the "feminist movement" by SJWs and the like.

Some members of this community are fucking stupid over SJWs, so idaf how much they flip. You don't have to make a grand declaration or tout your ideals all over place to claim an accurate label for yourself.

preach!

Re: ?????????????????????????

Seriously. Taking about social issues =/= automatic crazy raging SJW.

I also find it funny that most of the people here who lose their shit over "SJWs" tend to be the most sexist, racist, or homophobic. Gee I wonder why.

'Feminist' is an identity though.

If you identify as a feminist, you are a feminist.
If you don't identify as a feminist, you're not a feminist.

Feminist is a label for philosophical values. It's not like a religion where you must actively identify. Principles, viewpoints, propositions - they can all be feminist or not feminist, whether or not you agree.

example

"Women should be paid as much as men for the same work." - a feminist proposition. It's a statement and an idea so therefore cannot voluntarily "take on an identity" but it is still feminist.

"I believe women and men are equal." -a feminist idea.

If you don't believe in any gods, you're an atheist, even if you "don't like the label". If you believe women deserve equality, then you are a feminist.

Re: ?????????????????????????

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Because even the smallest iota required to be a feminist - having feminist values - means being aware of all the ways the world is terrible to women, and this is INCREDIBLY draining.

It's easier not to care. I wish I didn't.

I wonder if they fall into one of these categories?

OP here.

My feminism consists of "Gee, it really would be nice if women were paid equal wages for doing the same job. But, that's the world we live in. *shrug*."

An article that says "White women are so privileged they're practically men," that isn't on tumblr? What is the world coming to?
