The ammount of hate poor Sebastian gets for being a female-only LI, not to mention chaste is pretty ridiculous. So... All the people want is to boink whoever? Are their lives just that boring?

Also a lot of the whining has come from deciding who you want to romance before LIs were even announced. Like it's somewhat unfair that their Inquisitor cannot romance Vivienne, even if that was never an option?

Most of the time there's talk about romanceable and non-romanceable characters all I hear is "waah, waah, I am entitled to fuck everyone and anyone, waah, waah".

I've heard polyamory would be pretty difficult to code. I hope there won't be polyamorous relationships available, purely because of the wank. Maybe put in some NPCs, that would be cool?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. I mean, I dislike Sebastian because he's a preachy tit who insults my party and they never gave me an option to tell him he's being a child, but the only time I ever used him was when I got the urge to play an entire run with just rogues. I sent him back to his room when he abandoned me before we went into the Fade.

I can kind of see the reasoning behind hoping certain companions will be romance options (ngl I was hoping Solas would be a bi LI, then he wasn't and I was like, guess whose little elf is throwing himself butt first at Bull's dick?), but the extent Bioware's fandoms take it to is just ridiculous. Like damn, take two fanfics and call Anders in the morning, it's not worth getting all up yourself because Miss I'm-Better-Than-You doesn't want all up on your dick.

The wank would kind of be fun to watch to an extent. I get some sort of sick pleasure from watching crazy fanbrats whine on the internet, so they want to get all up themselves about it, I'll sit back and chuckle and go back to imagining how I'm going to fit Bull, Dorian, and my elf into a broom closet together (The answer is "you can't", if you're curious; they ended up in a storage shed instead).

I actually like Sebastian to some extent. I think it's at least partly seeing 1000th snide comment about how he is chaste that made me go "this boy is under my protection now". (yes, he's an annoying tit, and his march on Kirkwall is the over-reaction of the century but I will defend his right to not fuck anyone to the end of the Earth)

I mean sure we can have hopes and stuff (I would have liked Solas as bi as well). All I'm asking is that people wouldn't plan their play-throughs before the game gets published and then get their panties in a twist because it's not how they wanted.

I like the wank to some extent. I mean I do follow a Dragon Age confession blog on tumblr, just so I can roll my eyes at the stupid things people spout out. But sometimes I just get really tired, because it seems like the conversation just isn't moving at all. It's the same arguments. Same bullshit.

The whole fandom needs to chill and fic away.

I'm all for his right to not fuck anyone (even though I'm guilty of reading the smut fic when there's nothing else to read), I just don't like him because he's preachy, and I'm just shallow enough to admit I'd like him better if I could bang him.

Watching people be offended that they couldn't cater to them exclusively was fun though. I can't stand the confession blogs, I got pissed off at them the hundredth time someone tried to start up the Loghain wank again. Yes, yes, the guy was an asshole who made some bad choices, execute him and move on so I can go back to reading the ridiculous amount of smut a bunch of glorious people on the internet wrote about him because Inquisition made him hot.

I've read smut-fic of Sebastian as well. It never really struck me as odd until now. I guess it's a difference between that being in fic and people demanding that Sebastian must be their personal fuck-boy in the game. Plenty of fics go against canon, that's at least half the point.

I've never romanced Sebastian, but I doubt I'd like him any more or less if he was fuckable. He's good-looking, but I'm ace, so...

My biggest annoyance with confession blogs are the smug a-holes that go "My LI is clearly objectively the best LI because [insert bullshit reason here]" (most often Solas, Cullen or Alistair romancers) or "My Inquisitor/Warden/Hawke is better than yours because X", like, please, get off my dick.

I don't know why it's Dragon Age that has such a huge number of fans that just don't want anyone to disagree with them. Like with Loghain or with mages/templar or choice of LI. How about you play your game, I play mine and then we can compare notes, preferably without you screaming?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of it's just too good to ignore. My favorite ones make it an actual dilemma for him before they get to the banging, not just the seemingly standard "I shouldn't but you're hot so bed now", or pair him off with people who aren't Hawke and set it before he got shipped off to the Chantry. I read one of those that paired him off with Loghain, as it happens.

I'd like him better if I could fuck him simply because I can put up with a lot when it comes to attractive men, even if they're bad in bed or don't like guys, just the eye candy is enough.

Confessions like that just amuse me, because clearly Morrigan, Anders, Bull and Dorian are the best LIs, and anyone who disagrees clearly isn't playing the same game I am. Which is true, because that's the wonderful thing about Dragon Age, no one's playing the exact same game you are. If they were, more people would be amused by that one time a little Dalish boy ran around Denerim in his small clothes because a mod conflict didn't approve of his armor.

I have no idea either, because other than Mass Effect, I've never met a fandom that's this consistently up themselves about their way being the right way and everyone else is wrong. Even the superwholocks aren't that bad.

I can understand that some people don't have the time to work around the vows, so just going for the "let's bang, vows, what vows?", and if the plot is otherwise good, that's completely okay. But I do prefer fics where it's addressed, since it's a big part of his character, and about the only time his religiosity is addressed usually (unless he's being preachy).

Ah, personally I'm more of a Zevran -guy myself, but those are good picks. LIs are something I really don't see a point in fighting about since people obviously want different things. (There was a confession in one of the confession blogs about every other LI than Alistair being either unhealthy (cos they leave you) or insane, that was a riot)

Maybe there's something in the water? Dragon Age is really the first place I've gotten any contact with the bad side, all my other fandoms have been either delightfully non-wanky or non-existent. Scary stuff, mate.

So... All the people want is to boink whoever? Are their lives just that boring?

Ooh judgey!

I do like to fuck all the characters. So what? I also generally believe that the best RPG is one that allows the player to build their own storyline, so I think making everyone bisexual was the best way to do that. I wouldn't mind if some characters were much more difficult to romance homosexually or heterosexually, but yep, *gasp*, I enjoy pursuing romances/sex scenes in video games. Drop the pitchfork.

Fair enough, anon, that did come off as a bit judgmental, and I apologize. I'm ace myself, so I'm not rly interested in boinking anyone: video game characters or not. The amount of hate Sebastian gets over being chaste hits me in a sore spot, and makes me snappy.

I think I need a break from the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I agree that Sebastian's approach to sex is defining for his character, so I don't think that's fair criticism (though I still wish he would've been bi like everyone else, even if chaste). I didn't know Sebastian got crap for his chastity, I mostly just don't like him for who he is as a person. He's an interesting contrast to the other characters, but as a DLC character he was pretty underwhelming, imo, especially since he was the only character who would absolutely leave you at the end of the game if you didn't kill Anders, even if he was up to 100%.

There's a lot of off-hand commenting on the chastity, or at least has been in places I've looked. I wouldn't mind if people just went ahead and wrote Sebastian smut or something, that's what fanfics are for. But putting chastity as a character flaw or something to be fixed just rubs me the wrong way.

I found it actually nice that Sebastian would leave you. I wish more characters would do that. It makes me feel more like the characters don't wholly revolve around me. But different strokes for different folks, and that is a fair critique. I think his writing could have been way better, but then again I had problem connecting with all of the cast in DA2 because of the limited and scheduled cut-scenes.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely agree it's not a character flaw. And there is something to be said about Sebastian not "revolving around you" at the end of the game. I guess what I just like to see most in a character-driven RPG is the ability to alter your companions and even drastically change them, or have the ability to change or affect them to some extent. With that reasoning, it might've been interesting, if you play your cards just right, to be able to have wild kinky sex with Sebastian, or make him stay. I know Dragon Age 2 did this to some extent, but due to how rushed the game was, there was little you could do that actually affected anything big scale. It was nice to have "crisis" moments where characters could leave you, betray you, or be betrayed by you, but I think more possible outcomes with how they progress would be far more interesting.

For example, I really liked how "hardening" Leliana or Alistair in Origins could actually affect their dialogue, responses, and possible endings. And "hardening" wasn't as simple as rivaling them or something, it involved very specific subplots, in which you had to pick very specific responses - very easy to miss or never even know about. I think such a system would've been cool for Sebastian. For a DLC character is just felt like you should have more options with him, but it really rather felt like he was just a regular character.

Well, let's see. I used to play SWTOR. My two favorite classes were the Smuggler and the Bounty Hunter.

Smuggler had the most OBNOXIOUS SEXIST piece of crap LI for the ladies. And my lady Smug wanted nothing more than to stay with a key class story character and/or boink the hell out of the "bad guy" underboss.

Alas, she stayed pretty celibate unless there were stories on the planets that allowed her to sleep with someone. It was fun.

Bounty Hunter? Ladies have a snore fest LI, who, despite being a Manadalorian and thus plenty Adult enough and such to romance, he still came of very green and too boyish for my hardened BH. Plus, she wasn't a completely honorable character as it was and loved the money she made. So? Who did she fall for, by extension, myself? The non-romancable older companion who you find out had a girlfriend and may sorta be back with her at the very end of his companion quests.

B/

That, on top of Bioware's decision to not continue the class stories made me drop the game.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-08 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I personally liked the BH romance, even if he was a bit boyish, but I have a weakness for "older, hardened lady and younger, sweet man".

The Smuggler romance however... holy hell, I hated that guy. I wanted nothing to do with him and his sexist comments.
