Because they're one of those extremely touchy fic writers who love to start arguments about entitlement, probably.

That makes sense. Upset about not getting all the comments they "deserve" on their rare pair fics, perhaps?

... and the "I don't owe the writer anything!" (not even a few words of thanks for spending hours creating something that gave you pleasure) is why many writers stop bothering to post.

You don't can't be arsed to comment? Fine.
Writers won't be arsed to make things for ungrateful brats.

You don't can't be arsed to comment?

You know, there just might possibly be other reasons that your fics aren't getting many comments, aside from reader ingratitude. It's important to grammar.

Nobody owes anyone anything. You don't owe anyone fics. They don't owe you comments.

But the moment you stop writing because it's fun and start writing for comments, you might as well stop writing altogether.

If not getting comments makes you lose confidence and lose the will to write... well, maybe you should stop? It could be that people are lazy and don't want to comment, or it could be that people actually don't enjoy your writing. You could always try to find some sort of community where you can get some honest feedback, and then you can decide wether you want to keep writing or not.

Also remember that tumblr has made people stop leaving comments. If they have to do more than push a button, they can't be arsed to do it.

Comments were rare long before Tumblr got big.

Not if you wrote fics that people liked.

Lol no.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-06-16 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So what about the fics with hundreds of comments?

Learn to write things people like or learn to advertise yourself and make people like you if you want comments.

I'm... I'm not the "readers are ungrateful brats"!anon. Just a passerby who remembers people constantly wanking about not getting comments long before Tumblr was a twinkle in David Karp's eye.

Okay. But those two points were true back then as well - if you don't write fics people like or you don't advertise yourself and become popular, you get few or no comments.

There's also such a thing as writers who think they deserve comments and complain if they get less than ten comments on a one shot fic.

...Okay?

You confused, anon?

As to why this rant is still being directed at me, yes.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-06-16 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It seemed like you needed it.

Nope.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-16 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're not careful, I'll rant at you some more.

The culture has changed. Comments aren't considered the way to show appreciation anymore. Clicking "like/kudos/favorite" and then reblogging/sharing is the new norm. You have to come to terms with that.

And the thing is, they really DON'T owe you anything, just as you don't owe them anything. The fact that you created something doesn't entitle you to accolades or attention anymore than the fact that someone wants something entitles them to have their wishes fulfilled.
