Like many fans, I loathed "Rini" in the original anime. I didn't think much of her in the manga, either. I don't know if I have a different perspective now because I'm older or if Crystal is just handling her character a lot better, but she's probably my favorite character in the new series!

I just think Chibiusa is such an interesting character now, Electra Complex and all.

Bonus secret: I'm also rewatching the original anime now, and despite Crystal's flaws, I think I do like Crystal better.

Secret because these are among the two most heretical Sailor Moon opinions ever.

This reminds me, I really need to get caught up on S2 of Crystal, 'cause the Black Moon arc is one of my favorites in the series and there's no asinine filler with those two aliens this time huzzah.

it was my favorite, too, but I had a look a week ago and it was just as painful to watch as the first season, and Prince Demando does not make up for it at all, even though I still have a huge crush on him after all these years.

I need to catch up on s2 of Crystal as well. I love the Black Moon arc as well, along with Infinity.

Okay in all honesty, I only got a few episodes in. I know this is all going to sound heretical but the episodes I saw, were basically the old ones redrawn and I kept thinking, "Why would you spend all this money to make a new Sailor Moon series if you are going to do absolutely nothing new with it? Why not just digitally remaster and rerelease the old series? After all, it'd be a cheaper way of screwing with the fans."

But then again, I'm one of those weirdoes who loved the hell out of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Yeah, it's cheesy as hell at times (especially the fight scenes), but I do like how it tried to do something new with the series, especially the darker interpretation they took, regarding the Fall of the Moon Kingdom. I'm kind of sad it got canceled and we won't ever know how the writers involved would write the Dark Moon Family arc.

DA. Yeah if I'm honest Crystal is kind of boring when it doesn't diverge from the manga because I already know the story and the animation is not pretty enough to make it feel justified putting it to screen (in fact visually I prefer the manga over Crystal's art.)

They really should have put in SOME filler. We didn't need to have as much as the original series but I think 26 episodes would have been a nice size for just the Dark Kingdom arc.

The first episodes of the original series also followed the manga quite closely, which is why the beginning are both seasons are pretty similar. The differences don't really start until after later in the series, though Crystal gets to basically all points a hell of a lot faster than the original (IIRC, the original had 5+ episodes of Usagi on her own as Sailor Moon, which was pretty painful to watch since she's a pretty annoying character before her development kicks in).

And PGSM is awesome. I still think it's the best incarnation of the story, since it's the only one that managed to get the pacing right (original anime is too slow, manga/Crystal are too fast).

Pretty much everyone hates Chibi-usa in the original anime.

I love her in the manga and Crystal, so you're not alone OP. :)

I like some aspects of the older anime better (more time put on characterization, the gayness) but Crystal has been really solid at least these past few episodes.

Crystal is still really gay...

I don't get the hate for it, it's more concise and the fight scenes are more fleshed out than the original series.

I still love the original series but Crystal is better by far.

Crystal doesn't have any LGBT characters yet though, if they get renewed they'll have Michiru and Haruka but the original anime had a lot more representation in that regard.

And Crystal is not better. It's closer to the manga but it has horrible animation and the characters do not have fully fleshed out personalities and relationships. And while I enjoyed Naoko's manga, she was crap at pacing so following her pacing exactly does not make for a good anime (especially since they tried to ADD to her already rushed story in the dark kingdom arc, it made it even worse.)

Tbf, her character was handled POORLY in the original anime. She was basically a joke Senshi as opposed to one who can actually attack and help the others after she grows into her own.

I'm glad Crystal is following that from the manga so well.

I liked her when I first saw the show when I was super young (like 7 or 8), but she got on my nerves a lot when I rewatched the show as an adult (well, a lot of the characters did tbf)

I watched Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon for the first time as an adult, and I really liked Chiba-Usa, too! I thought she was kinda trying sometimes, yes, but I liked her arc and I thought she was compelling.

Maybe it was because I was expecting something a lot more terrible than what I got, but I think she's fine in the original anime.

Crystal, unfortunately, I really do just kind kinda boring as a whole.

I certainly did. (Though I was pretty neutral on Chibiusa/Rini.) I've been considering trying a rewatch with subs, but I'm afraid I won't be able to handle the filler episodes like I could as a kid.

ChibiUsa was terrible in the english dub but the english dub got most of the characters/plots wrong.

ChibiUsa in the original anime could be annoying but she was HILARIOUS and she grew a lot, she also had a more convincing relationship with Usagi.

The thing that bothers me about Crystal is that Usagi goes from hating her to loving her in 2 seconds flat and there is no real development or bond to their relationship (though honestly this could be said for all the relationships in Crystal, without filler the senshi never have time to bond.)

ChibiUsa may not be obnoxious but she also doesn't have much of a personality in Crystal.

I liked her in the manga, but I REALLY love her in Crystal. I feel like the older I get the more I like Chibi-Usa.

And I love her Electra Complex too -- some people think it's too creepy, but I think it makes her a fascinating character. I'm really excited for Super when there'll be Hotaru and Chibi-Usa friendship. :3
