Why mess with success?

I don't like them either, but the majority of the viewers do like the current writing. The book readers and other dissatified audience members are a minority.

That said, I do think they're headed towards some awful ass-pulls by not including some of the characters, like the elder Tyrell brothers.

Which "D" is the one on the right?

I agree. And I say this as a huge fan of the show. But it has gone more and more off the rails. And the thing is, it gets worse as it gets further from the books. The best stuff is almost always the stuff that is actually in the books. Some of the changes work, but most of the changes particularly this past season have not worked.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand the frustration with how the series is written, but it's not about "having balls", OP. The show is popular and getting high ratings. HBO doesn't want to fire people who seem to be driving one of the most successful cable shows in recent history.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck that noise. Just because you don't like a story that's no reason to belittle the people who work hard on it with your "real writers" bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There's such a thing as bad writers and it doesn't matter how hard someone works on their product if their product is crap.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crap" is subjective, though. If people are buying it, their product is a success.

It's officially in it's 'anime vs manga' phase. Don't like it? Read one of the books, ya purist!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, are you implying that book fans are the only ones who have issues with the show?

I just want one of the big surprise midseason deaths to be the show itself.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes thank you. Someone should make this.

....scorched Westeros? Long overdue for GRRM to do that with the books, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Is this some book elitist whining again?
Why can't people just view them as two separate things? That will spare book readers frustration and show watchers from this entitled crying.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
How about we just let the people who enjoy the show continue watching it and people who prefer the books just drop the show and masturbate with their GRRM masterpieces?

I am perfectly satisfied with the HBO version and enjoying every episode. Though book readers are kind enough to never let me be misinformed about WHAT NEVER HAPPENED IN THE BOOKS and how it's so blasphemous the show is and that we should burn the writers at the stake. It's SUCH A BIG FUcKING DEAL!!!!1

Attention all show watchers, stop enjoying the show!! It's doing it WRONG! Down with D&D, the usurpers!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, why are GoT fans so defensive? Why can't you just accept that some people dislike the show because, let's be honest here, the writing isn't that good and not because OMG IS DIFFERENT FROM THE BOOKS!!!?

Straw man arguments all over, but boy, are you getting into those.

A storyline reliant on raping female characters; a storyline cutting out women left and right; a storyline making the already-terrible race issues of the often-terrible books even worse is a bad storyline: It's derivative, disgusting, and cheap.

I bet you like True Detective.

Every negative thing that people complain about in the show happens after D&D write something themselves and break away from the books.

It's pretty fucking funny actually, how they think that GoT is a success due to THEIR writing, when they've essentially been copy pasting shit for the first few seasons. And those get the most praise.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
For me, I feel like D&D have no grasp on these characters whatsoever without GRRM’s guidance. They reached a point where they either had to wait for him to finish writing (impossible, HBO would never allow it), work with him to tell the same story, or branch out in their own way. And branching out is fine if they had a proper feel for what they were doing. I’ve come to see this season of Game of Thrones as AU fanfic. I read the ASoIaF books, and I enjoy them . I enjoy fanfic very much. AU fanfic isn’t bad or good on its own - its dependent on the writer and the ideas. At times the AU Fanfic in this season has been good or interesting, but a lot of it still feels very short-sighted and lazy to me. Rather than fleshing things out and telling a good story, it seems focused on the quickest path from Point A to Point B. There are also times when I feel like D&D are trying to write shocks for the sake of it, just to keep people on their toes and copy a little of that GoT magic. That ‘oh fuck, no one is safe’ moment we all had the first time we realized that NED STARK IS ACTUALLY DEAD. And it’s not necessary. So much of what they’re doing is unnecessary, lazy or just CHEAP.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no. They don't work for you. They work for HBO and HBO task them with bringing money.

I hate D&D as much as the next guy but their main job is to bring in viewers. And while most of GoT is shit, they get a lot of viewers who love that shit, so they're doing an amazing job.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Millions of people love it, GRRM loves it and guides/writes for it, it's popular and entertaining. You purist teas matter not.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you so butthurt at someone disliking your favorite show? Grow up.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The weird thing is that they used to have a lot of other writers on GoT.
