Aw. I liked the new soundtrack, although you are right OP that it can't beat the original. While this movie was good, it wasn't quite as good as the original.

Same here. The original is fine, but it's not my favorite.

I don't remember the original bits of the soundtrack here to be honest.

The original bits were mostly when the kids were first entering the park and then a couple other notes here and there.

I respectfully but strongly disagree - I think the original is not only the best of the franchise, but in and of itself is a lovingly crafted, deftly made, well acted and intelligently scripted monster movie with a moral compass and a sense of humour. I liken it to Die Hard in its perfect build up then use - and exploitation - of its setting to create tense action scenes that make sense and don't just rely on big scary dinosaurs. Then, when the dinosaurs show up - that's when things get fun.

The others, including Jurassic World, to me seem like they're either trying to recreate the magic of JP, or shoehorn something that doesn't quite fit into the series. Jurassic World came the closest to Jurassic Park (by essentially copy and pasting the character dynamics of the original but tweaking them slightly). But to me, it just felt like another, lesser sequel.

And the hardcore sexism didn't bother you?

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-06-25 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hardcore? Really? There was a bit that I found sexist and some stuff that could arguably be called sexist, but I wouldn't call it hardcore sexist. Really the only sexist thing was the characterization and that one scene between the two main characters at his trailer.

The only thing that bothered me was (what I felt) the overly gratuitous death of the assistant woman.

I do agree that the accusations of sexism feel a bit overblown. Its in the movie, but "hardcore" seems an exaggeration.

I didn't mind her death because she was the only non-military/trained death. She was the closest to a civilian death, and I felt the movie needed that so you could feel that anyone could die. I wish the pterodactyls had killed others too.

Its not that she died, its how long her death went on that bugged me? Like it just kept going on and she just kept being tossed around, and not even the male villains was that bad. Just my opinion though, and its not even what I usually see referenced when people accuse it of sexism.

Yeah, it kind of felt like it was suppose to be funny, and there was definitely some laughter in the theater both times I watched.

I got the exact opposite out of that scene. To me that moment was horrifying and added to the general atmosphere of danger.

Jurassic Park will always be my favourite of the movies I think but I enjoyed Jurassic World a lot as well, I honestly didn't notice the soundtrack when it wasn't the original theme so I can't say whether I liked that or not.

Nothing beats the first, OP. But I did highly enjoy this movie. Easily the best of the sequels.
