What can you do when you're suicidal but you've reached the limit of support that the NHS can offer?

Try to find charities, free helplines or just a listening ear. I'm less up to date with what available in the UK now, but most countries have initiatives like that.

Spend any and all money you have trying to get better or take out loans to get better help. If the alternative is dying, you have nothing to lose, to be honest.

I think you know already.

Do you have access to a social worker? If so, ask about the non-profit programs that exist. There are usually resources available.

I wish I had a better answer than that, but I'm just not sure how things work in the UK.

Social workers can't do shit because they are severely limited with their resources.

-someone who has been down the social worker route-

Not being familiar with what the NHS provides, could you clarify what you've tried so far? I've been in your position. One of the most effective things to combat suicidal thoughts and feelings is to do something for other people. A volunteer position somewhere... animal shelter/rescue, reading to children, helping out a nursing home or soup kitchen, whatever. I'm not saying it works miracles or is a cure, but feeling like what you do matters is an incredible antidote to feeling suicidal.

I have gerkins, tomatoes, cheese, Vegemite and basil pesto. what kind of toastie should I have for lunch?

Re: Advice Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it sounds like you have the makings of a solid pizza toastie with the tomatoes, pesto and cheese!

This didn't click for me - you're right!

All of the things. All of them.

I don't know but be sure to e-mail some of it to me.

I was just given my assignment and I don't know what to write. It's an OT3 for a modern-day crime show. My recipient gave me zero ideas.

I'd love some OT3 prompts, preferably not AUs. Anyone have any ideas? What would you like to receive for your OT3s?

Re: Advice Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What are the genders of the OT3?

I would go with a casefic. You'd have murder solving scenes (are they out at work? Can they talk personal life at work? Or do they bring the work home with them?) interspersed with relationship scenes (What's for dinner? Should we visit our parents? Hey guys, I know it's three am but I just had a theory about the murder I want us to discuss.)

Bind the two plots (case and relationship) together. (Murder victim reminds A and B of C, the relationship between the victim and his family is a bit like certain aspects of the A/B/C relationship, B is curious if A thinks they're capable of murder and has in fact made a bet with C about it)

How about a Rashomon story?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
The same story told by each of the three. You could go with unreliable narrators or simply that their different perspectives illuminate different things.

Or one of them is trapped, in danger, and the other two finally talk about this thing amongst them that they hadn't really been acknowledging.

It's really hot and humid in London and apartments don't have air conditioners. How do I not die?

(they TOLD me London didn't get hot... they lied...)

Re: Advice Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It rarely gets hot. You can just wait it out. It won't last long. Take cold showers if you have to.

Throw a shirt or sheet in the freezer if you can? My apartment doesn't have air conditioning and that's what I do when it becomes unbearably hot.

Drink lots of cold beverages and try to move as little as possible. :(

I feel your pain, Seattle's been nuclear for the past week and it's been hellish. (We're breaking state records left and right!) Almost zero residences here have A/C, so it's just a desperate attempt to throw open every window and pray you get a crossbreeze, or bite the bullet and buy an expensive window or wall A/C unit.

My advice, assuming buying a unit yourself is out of your price range: take cool showers, drink plenty of water, and try to go to public places that have A/C when you can just for a bit of a break. Avoid alcohol. Hope that the hot streak ends soon. Good luck!

Cold (like, in the freezer for ten minutes) damp washcloth to the back of the neck. Fan on the front of the body. Cold drink (water is best). Relax. The washcloth does *wonders*.

WHY do they not have air conditioners? That can kill when the heat gets terrible!
