Shipping from a Specific Moment

(Anonymous) 2015-07-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any ships you have that you can trace back to a specific moment/scene/storyline/look/etc. that got you to ship the pairing?

If so, what was the scene that got you shipping this pairing? (Or are there any specific moments where you just knew shipping would break out because of it?)

Bonus if it's something super tiny.

Harry/Hermione: I shippped it from the first time I read the friendship and bravery scene.

Steve/Bucky: I think I kind of shipped it from the first movie, though I was mostly all about Steve/Peggy at first. But I wasn't completely sold or obsessed with the pairing until the "I knew him" scene.

Luke/Mara: For me it was the moment in Dark Forces Rising where she goes to ask for his help. She still hates him, but she's asking for his help. And he goes.

Callie/Arizona: I kind of liked it from the start. But I wasn't really shipping until the pizza in bed together scene.

*clutches chest as well (mine not yours)*

Thanks for sharing, it's been too long since I've watched any DBZ, and those two are just the best couple ever. I'm having so many emotions right now.

Steve/Peggy - Weirdly, I didn't start hardcore shipping it until I saw The Winter Soldier and saw how utterly pained Steve looked when Peggy forgot then re-remembered him

Steve/Bucky -"I'm with you til the end of the line" Oh Steve

Steve/Sam - when Sam smiles at Steve after Steve wakes up in the hospital and says "on your left"

Clint/Natasha - "You know what it's like to be unmade?" "You know that I do."

Kirk/Spock - reboots: "I do not know. Right now I am failing." (can't really pinpoint a singular moment in TOS though)

Zuko/Mai - "I love Zuko more than I fear you."

That's a great Zuko/Mai. Though for me it was the quiet scene of just the two of them snuggling in the beach episode.

And so agreed on Clint/Natasha. I was totally sold after that scene.

Yes! On the Sam/Steve! Though, I shipped it from "Oh, so that's how it's gonna be?" But Sam's smile in the hospital is a particularly blinding smile. I love it. :3

Hahaha, so many "Oh Steve :(" moments over here.

That hospital scene was sooooo shippy. Sam sitting there reading with the soft music, uuuugh. He actually acted exactly like one of my boyfriends did the time I was hospitalized. And I can't with Steve's lowkey flirting. If it weren't for all his boos from the 40's Sam/Steve would be my forever ship.

In a JLA issue, there were two panels on one page that featured Martian Manhunter and Kyle Rayner, and for whatever reason, that's what has me shipping these two.

(For context, MM is helping Kyle with some disturbing dreams and offering comfort but it really reads as flirting to me. I've never been a huge MM fan but Kyle's my fandom bicycle and this one tiny moment made me ship these two hard.)

For Vetinari/Drumknott, though I can't really put my finger on when I started shipping it (besides which I read the books in a weird order), Raising Steam amazed me with how shippy it was for V/D. They were already pretty close in the Moist books, but Raising Steam threw ambiguity completely out the window. I was not in the least bit surprised when about a dozen V/D shippers popped up overnight of the release (which is a lot okay).

For Ferb/Vanessa from Phineas and Ferb, I always casually shipped it and thought it cute, but Act Your Age sold me on it completely.

Teen Wolf:
Legit Ship: Stilinski/Melissa, since...I don't really know, but the earliest I can remember is when they were at a Lacrosse game together. It might be from the moment they laid eyes on each other.

Crack ship: Stilinski/Finstock since cupcake.

Fun to think about but I've never looked into at all and see little basis for: Peter/Argent, Derek/Argent (this one, probably when they were handcuffed together at the station).

The West Wing:
Josh/Sam: If "We da men!" came before "You look fit!" and Josh's crestfallen expression to "Lisa and I are getting married," that.

Josh/Kenny: I just feel like Kenny is making eyes at him every time Joey is around. It doesn't help that Joey has him saying things like "Josh Lyman, you have the cutest butt in professional politics!"

CJ/Danny: It probably started with Gail.

There are more for more fandoms, but I can't spend all night on this.

Harry/Ginny: the valentine card scene in Chamber of Secrets, it was really adorable.

Tony/Rhodey (MCU): the sand dune scene in IM1. Instantly and forever. From Rhodey opening with the worst joke in history, to him pulling Tony into his arms. Sold forever.

Ivan/Victoria (RED): I was shipping it from the moment we connect the dots between her story to Sarah and his story to Frank, but then the gate scene happened and I was really really shipping it. "Perhaps I could be of assistance?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpKhobkTOyY) Most ridiculously romantic rescue ever.

Spock/McCoy (ST:TOS): more or less from their opening salvos at each other, but the hand-holding scene in "Miri" sure helped a lot as well, and the staggered 'Good luck' from "The Immunity Syndrome" sealed the deal. Also the movies. All of them, but 'Search for Spock' and 'Voyage Home' have to be winning some slash awards somewhere.

James/John (Sanctuary): all of their tense negotiations and teasing during the trials for the Source Blood (John constantly getting up in James' face for teleportation purposes also helps), but that moment where John makes it plain that he couldn't leave James to die, and James' face when John more gently takes his shoulder to get them both out. That moment. (Though this one a couple of seasons later also doesn't hurt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47j2Ak7Rb08).

So agreed on James/John. I threesomed them with Helen so hard. But for just them, my first shippy moments were in Source Blood.

That Iron Man scene was the only reason I cared that Don Cheadle was taking the role.

Those are all moments that made me ship Spock/McCoy too! Although I think the single scene that made me start shipping them was their interaction in Mirror, Mirror, where McCoy saves the evil Spock, and then gets the mind meld.

Tony/Rhodey honestly snuck up on me, there was no BAM moment when I realised that I shipped them, I just came out of AoU with the knowledge that I did but that scene has always been a favourite of mine, just the obvious relief on Rhodey's face and the hug man.

For Castiel/Sam, it was probably the moment when Cas had Sam bite down on a belt and proceeded to soul-fist him. I thought it was pretty hot, ngl.

Rick/Evie: The conversation they're having when Evie is more than a little drunk and proclaiming loudly that she's proud of who she is and Rick being so amused/enthralled by her, and then she tries to kiss him and falls asleep right at that moment. (Also the moment after the Medjai attack the camp and Rick is checking her over with such care and attention).

Steve/Bucky: I low-key dug it in the first movie but what really tipped me over was the flashback scene in front of Steve's old apartment when he was still small and Bucky just being so damn supportive and loving and Steve trying to fend off Bucky 'taking pity on him' and Bucky refusing to back down to that and just, gah, stab me with a spoon why don't you? Also the 'I knew him' scene, that was a knife to my shipping heart as well.

Thor/Loki: That entire scene on the mountain top, with Thor being so earnest and just wanting Loki to come back and Loki almost seeming to consider it(which was probably fake but w/e), ugh, didn't mean to ship it but did. Oh well.

Alan/Ellie: Honestly the first five mins of the movie where she's playfully ribbing him about kids and then he goes off on a rant about kids being awful(and she doesn't seem hurt, just incredibly amused), and then ofc later at the park when Ellie convinces Tim to go sit with Alan and just HER CHEEKY FUCKING GRIN, ilu Ellie.

Alan/Billy: It's bad enough that Billy spends almost the entire goddamn movie looking at Alan with huge puppy-eyes, but the hurt puppy-eyes after he disappoints Alan for stealing raptor eggs(LIKE A MORON) is what catapulted me over into shipper land.

Korra/Asami: At the end of season three when Asami is helping Korra and is being so caring and telling Korra that she'll be there for anything, right in the feelings man.

Spock/Uhura: The scene in the turbolift just after Vulcan was destroyed and she's asking him what he needs and he's falling back on Vulcan 'don't show shit' ways and she's just hurting for him and tries to comfort him.

Raimundo/Kimiko: The episode where Kimiko has to complete a showdown in a formal kimono and it turns out that Raimundo bet that she'd succeed.

Sastiel - Two moments, really. It started from a tiny little seed when Cas went power-mad and Dean was all "He's gone, no chance of getting him back" - and Sam went outside and offered a quiet, heartfelt prayer, telling Cas that he could still come home. <3 <3 <3

*weeps*

Then it became a full-fledged ship when Sam sat across from crazy!Cas and told him that he was grateful - fucking GRATEFUL - for everything Cas had done ("everything" including BREAKING SAM'S WALL and causing him to be tormented by Lucifer hallucinations) in the course of trying to save them from another Apocalypse. He said he understood that he was only ever trying to help - and it clicked.

Sam gets it because Sam DID it. Sam made all the same mistakes for the same reasons, and he can UNDERSTAND in a way that Dean couldn't. And it also broke my heart for Sam because how badly he probably needs someone to acknowledge, "Hey, I know you were TRYING to save your brother/the world, even if you did it wrong. And thanks for that."
