3. *cracks up*

8. This has nothing to do with the secret, but those cosplayers are amaaaziiiing.

31. I love the show, but thank you for not being one of those people who hate it just for the art style. To each their own~

39. ...lol. (the good kind of lol) Unfortunately, a lot of the people who DO like it are too stupid to understand it, so... flawed logic much? I dunno.

44. I love you.

51. ...this is a secret? I thought tons of people agreed with L.

56. Who doesn't?

57. Oh hey I think I know you. 8D *probably wrong*

Also, why are all the black men hogging the magical powers? Other races can be deus ex macina tools to move the white character's plotlines forward too, you know! Like, there could totally be a Hispanic dude who shows up for five minutes to give Blondy McBlonderston sage advice. Black people are clearly totally hogging the spotlight.

The U.S. race system, especially on the east coast, is pretty - wait for the pun - black and white. The idea that there are other minorities can kind of throw the American mind into a tail spin. This is really, really not black people's fault.

7. YES! I know parts of it were not exactly edge-of-your-seat, but I don't care. Patrick Stewart? Half-naked Sting? I wouldn't trade them for anything new.

38. LMFAO. XD

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
1. I'm right there with you. I wasn't a teenybopper fangirl, but he'd been on my radar ever since AKT (one of my favorite movies ever). I didn't cry, but I was really upset.

5. And almost in direct contradiction to my previous statement, ditto. I was really upset when Heath Ledger died, but when I read Fred's death, in the privacy of my own home, I shouted and spent the next half hour sobbing hysterically. I was home alone that weekend, and so the next few days involved me wandering listlessly around the house, hugging a giant orange CareBear (old birthday gift) and trying to lift my spirits with Scrubs.
Heath Ledger was a real person, but Fred Weasley felt like someone I had personally known for ten years (and who, had he been real, I would've spent the entire time of our acquaintance trying to date him).

7. Is that the original? The 70's one with Sting and Patrick Stewart and all? Because I love that one. I think it was my first introduction into real, hardcore sci-fi.

10. Considering that it was just as obvious as Ron/Hermione... *shrug*

40. Truth.

48. Love me some Six. I want that technicolor dreamcoat already.

53. I don't agree with this secret at all, but... Is that the guy from Squirrel Nut Zippers?

56. Who doesn't?
Well...aside from the blind-thing.

57. URGH! The whole point of Finding Neverland was that he wasn't a closet pedo. If anything, it's an awesome example of how to raise children.

60. Glad somebody said it...

No, it's Danny Elfman, formerly of (the Mystic Knights of the) Oingo Boingo.

20. Don't care about the pairing either way, but ew at the fanart. I had to read the secret before I realized who the characters were supposed to be.

29. I like to pretend the compilation isn't canon, lulz.

54. Hm, my favourite character was Toguchi. Has anyone actually been paying attention to the NA release of the series? I've yet to see a single volume in any store.

[identity profile] infected-wound.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I own a volume of it :o

It's nice. 8D

[identity profile] linen-tartaruga.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
39. Actually, some of us just don't see the big deal; or can't stand the DBZ-style storytelling, by which I mean the way it takes forever to get through a single storyline; or think the way it tries to take itself so damn seriously makes most of its OMGDRUMATIC scenes actually kinda hilarious; or think it sucks in an almost creepy kinda way that the only characters that get any development and backstory are Kira's creepy as fuck psychotic little pawns.

Which isn't to say you're not allowed to like it. God knows I have my own series that I love that most people would and have turn up their noses at.

[identity profile] ldkirby.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
37 - Ah, the joys of neopets. I wish they would un-IP ban me ><;

61

(Anonymous) 2008-02-02 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
61, you're so right. The fandom is so "ew, girl cooties!" that I could never, ever get into.

Seriously, if the show was exactly the same, but about two sisters instead of brothers, I think there wouldn't be a fandom at all. In fact, people would complain about "that CW show with the angsty tough Mary Sues"

44

(Anonymous) 2008-02-02 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the movie in its entirety- I would almost certainly get horribly motion sick if I saw it in theaters, and I'm morally opposed to vomit- but after reading the response to it on Making Light (http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/009872.html#009872), I'm thinking I probably won't see it on video, either, though I'd kind of been planning to.

I think the director was trying to do some interesting and potentially insightful things; I think it's a plus that there was no attempt to explain the monster with handwaving and pseudoscience, as there so often is in movies like this. But I really don't see the appeal of watching people behave stupidly in crisis situations, to the point where all of the main characters die at the end, just for the sake of hitting the audience in the face with an emotional two-by-four.

Again, I think the movie was doing a lot of interesting things, particularly with its viral marketing- but the hand-camera thing is motion-sickness inducing, and the ending was weak, and I think those are pretty valid reasons to dislike the film.

"Look... at... me... yeah... just like that, uh I'm co... ming, AHHHHH!!!", I can't take that scene seriously, and I doubt he truly loved her, it was just an obsession with someone he could never have.

Had harry and James died but Lily survived he wouldn't have wasted time on slipping her a love potion and raping the living daylights out of her.

Yeah, no so-called Snape redemption for me, the man was an asshole.

41- There's absolutely nothing wrong with Apollo. He's adorkable and the best part of the game, and I'm not sure what "canon rape" you refer to.

My problems from GS4 pretty much 95% stem from Phoenix and his presence, though the game has some other issues as well (...I can't help but think that they'd be better if they weren't tied back to HoboNick though).

[identity profile] nickel-curry.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
44. I loved the movie, but it's hard to ignore the camera moves when I got so much motion sickness that I couldn't look at it, and someone else threw up in my theatre. :| We're not saying the movie itself was bad, it was just hard to focus.

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I love everyone too! But Ryan has always been not one of my favorites like the others. He just really selfish and too stand-offish to the others. I never liked how he treated Kelly either. But he did have his moments. Anyway, I agree.

I've decided to repost all my comments as one big post to save space xP
27. Wait, what do you mean you hate 'strong Black women' stereotypes in 'real life'? You mean you hate REAL strong Black women? That's kinda wrong... I don't think you're trying to be racist (stereotypes are bad, duh) but your wording was really bad...
But now that I have reread it, I now realize you're basically saying to African-Americans 'Who cares if you've persecuted against throughout your history? Your wanting to be strong makes me mad, God dammit!'. And then you try to muffle the racism and insensitiveness by saying OTHER minority women should enjoy the spotlight.
ONE MORE THING. Wouldn't your problem with the script writers and producers (Who, face it, are mostly white men) then with the Black actresses portraying them? Why are you blaming the whole RACE for that?
If you reply, I'm sure you're going to mention your Black friends.

'Who cares if you've persecuted against throughout your history? Your wanting to be strong makes me mad, God dammit!'

My people have been just as persecuted, dude, and I'll venture to say that most cultures/races/etc. have been at some point in history. It doesn't mean that anyone's suffering is worth more or less than anyone elses', but that no one has a monopoly on it. It takes a bigger person to accept the past and move on than to harp on it like it just happened yesterday. =/ (I think that's the point the author was trying to make.)

I've read the one pictured in the secret because I'm into Anglo-Saxon history and one other that made so little impression on me I can't even remember what it was called and haven't read any more since.

If you haven't already, look into some of Stephen Lawhead's and Morgan Llywelyn's novels. They're not mysteries as such, but they do feature Irish culture and history.

6. I know exactly how you feel, one of my drawings was posted on /y/ a couple of weeks ago, and I freaked because it was pretty much just a sketch with like 1049938592 anatomical errors in it. D: people didn't hate it, though, I guess that's a plus?

47. As a fellow crossover fan, and a lover of Tsubasa and KKM, I think I can see a lot of potential in your Gwedal/Kurogane ship. In fact, it is now the only Gwendal ship that I have any interest in. (Stoic ninja + stoic prince who loves anything that is cute and fuzzy = SO MUCH WIN) Thank you for opening my eyes. :D

I would totally read fic for it. And I will totally (attempt to) write fic for it.

WHOO! I will totally read it if you do. Honestly, I started to too, but then I was like "...where am I going to post this?" and kind of shied from the idea. XD
