The CGI wouldn't necessarily be good if it was picked up by Hollywood either, it largely depends on who picked it up, the budget, and what studios *they* hired to do the cgi.

But IA it looks dumb but I didn't expect it to look good and I don't really have an interest in a live action Attack on Titan in the first place so I won't be watching.

Well... it looks cheaper because it is? Japanese films don't ever have the budget that Hollywood films do. And though they can be really amazing at CGI and such in theory, without the budget, it's never going to look quite as realistic.

I'm not too bothered by levels of CGI. If it must be used, it generally looks more or less the same to me (as in, slightly fakey, but I can get over it). I'll definitely see the Attack on Titan film, though I'm more concerned about it being melodramatic and cheesy in a way that I think can work for anime/manga, but doesn't translate well into real life. Meh, either way, I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

I don't get why people expect productions with a very limited market to have a similar quality as big budget Hollywood films (which, you know, have an assured market in the whole word).

Joke's on you, the titans are not CG but people in make-up. They're doing this kaiju style and I actually like the look for what it is.

Now what REALLY bothers me that apparently they made Mikasa into Eren's girlfriend and straight-up butchered her character.

I only saw one trailer and didn't get a chance to examine the titans, but that is awesome that they're people in makeup. totally approve.

But ewww about Mikasa! I am way behind on the manga, but I was really hoping she and Eren would remain "platonic". I liked them as brother/sister, though I was kind of figuring them being a couple was inevitable. Still, flat out making Mikasa his girlfriend? Booooo!

Mikasa is in love with Eren, but he doesn't have feelings for her so don't worry, I'm sure they will remain platonic. Eren cares more about Armin than Mikasa anyways.

Well, Eren still pretty apathetic towards Mikasa. Unfortunately Isayama still thinks it's HI-LARIOUS to portray her as a jealous stalker who gets angry every time he even talks to a girl.
Recent chapter had her giving a death glare because he was laughing and talking with Historia. Ugh.

They did! They took everyone in the original series and transported them to Japan and made them Japanese, taking out characters whose names were blatantly not-Japanese. It's OK because the creator okayed it!!

(I don't even watch this series, I just read the article about the changes on ANN and they sound so terribad, and even worse because Isayama was behind them)

I wouldn't be so quick to assume USA CGI would be better at least when it comes to something like this with humanoid monsters.

Jack the Giant Slayer had a budget of almost $200 million and look how the giants there came out.

Actually OP is right - the film has cast all Japanese actors for a series that has like two people of (implied) Japanese descent, and one is only half. I kinda want a version like OP does but I certainly don't mind the racebending in this film. Only the Mikasa romance angle is really my only gripe about the film. But, hey, it might turn out okay?

Well the characters in AoT are white European for the most part. So no, their race doesn't match the manga.

But it's a stupid thing to complain about. They localized the movie so they could cast Japanese actors, big deal. It's a Japanese manga so... what's wrong with that??

It's way less weird than when they had a Japanese guy playing in ancient Roman in Thermae Romae.
