As someone who hasn't watched Grimm in a long time, that seems like a lousy direction to take the plot.

ME TOO!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It was absolutely, 1000% rape by fraud, and it kills me that not one of the characters has called it what it was. And I can't stand the thought of Nick With Adalind, or of her having his baby. I'd much rather she died and/or miscarried.

I think Juliette was done wrong too, although honestly, it's secondary. To lose bother her AND Kelly...I've noped out of the show at this point.

It's magical fraud so it doesn't count, obviously.

Never been so glad to nope out of a show as I was with Grimm.

While I'm at it, a couple years back there was a massive overhaul in the writer's room, and as someone who extensively blogged about that show.... yeah.

I think I'm starting to nope out myself... Which sucks, because I absolutely adored Grimm. Then Adalind came along, and it suddenly became all about her, and Juliette went from an awesome badass action girl into an evil, spiteful, nasty witch who got stuffed in the fridge.

Re: b!s I agree but I am completely and totally unsurprised.

I don't watch Grimm, but I can empathize with the rage you feel when fandom tries to claim there's consent when there isn't.

Someone honest-to-god tried to claim Sam from Life on Mars wasn't raped - even though he'd been dosed with LSD, handcuffed to a bed, and had a woman ride him while he was hallucinating. And this was after the woman had propositioned him and he'd unambiguously refused.

My mind was blown that anyone could get "consensual sex" from that scene.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I'm pretty sure there will be people who say that in literally every case where a male character is raped by a woman in media. It's an inevitable feature of fandom.

ITA. I forced myself to finish through the last season and then gave it the old Fuck This Shit. Not even shirtless Sasha Roiz can save that soap opera eyeroller.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I noped out after the last midseason finale. Most of it was disinterest at that point, but what I heard about the second half of the season convinced me never to attempt catching up. Juliette might not be the best written character in the world (mainly because the writer's don't seem to care much) but I've always loathed how the show and the fandom (mainly the Nick/Monroe side of fandom) treated her.

And then all this garbage happened. The entire amnesia plot was already horrendous. Leave Juliette the fuck alone.

We already had a magical Adalind baby plot, and the actress ending up preggo For Real shouldn't immediately mean to make the character pregnant. That's just lazy lazy lazy. Ironically, OUaT has pulled the same exact shit this season. Villain pretended to be a hero's wife (who she'd murdered), raped him, and ended up pregnant with his baby for supreme soap opera love triangle drama.

I refuse to watch both of these shows anymore.

Hearing about what happened to her makes me so sad because Juliette is honestly one of my favourite characters and I'm far enough behind that aside from stupid amnesia plot she's been alright, knowing about this plot just makes me not want to catch up(or only catch up till I'm done with the season).

I even really like Adalind too but not at the expense of Juliette.

Why show? :(

At least one of the showrunners has publicly said that Adalind is his favourite character and he loves seeing her get more screentime/lines, so she's definitely a creator's pet.

Keeping in mind that I don't follow spoilers or casting news, I'm not convinced Juliette is dead. Trubel was definitely acting shady, and I suspect that scene was a capture for FBI Lady.

I don't think Adalind/Nick is endgame yet, either, but I also don't think he'd walk out on his baby despite the implications behind (paraphrase) "no one wants that baby." I suspect they'll get over their issues and Adalind will be more or less redeemed and then either die or coparent

But I do agree that Adalind raped Nick and wish it would be addressed. But I've also been waiting all season for someone to acknowledge that stealing her baby was a bad decision, so I'm not holding my breath. But not "noping out" either.

Agree 1000% and then some!

I am suddenly very glad I stopped watching this show before it went down the gutter.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly why I quit the show. They completely ruined poor Juliette's character (having her destroy the trailer? christ) and, to a lesser extent, Adalind's. She's always been kind of creepy but they really took it over the edge this season. She's pretty much irredeemable for me at this point and I used to enjoy her as an antagonist

+1

Allowing Adalind redemption would be the final nail in the coffin for me. I'm tired of these genuinely awful characters suddenly turning good for whatever reason in these soap opera shows.

Me, too, OP. Yick.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I really liked Juliette, but even if I hadn't, what they did to her character has been unconscionable and frustrating starting from the amnesia. Heck, starting from when Nick refused to tell her the truth for so long.

But Adelind raping Nick was beyond the pale. Why is it writers just lose their freaking minds whenever an actor gets pregnant and start to write horrible shit like this?

Actually, I know they answer: they're punishing the actor for "causing problems."

Re: Me, too, OP. Yick.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
The show and the fandom have been pretty terrible to Juliette the entire series. I mean, heck, I think Nick has also been a terrible SO the entire series, too. Most of the amnesia plot could have been resolved or avoided all together if Nick stopped acting like a suspicious, lying asshole and just told her the truth.

I'm also tired of real life writes the plot, too. But writers who pull this shit never actually think about the implications. The writers for OUaT have done the same thing repeatedly.

I'll never forgive what they did to Juliette.

Specially as they had the perfect setting to write her out without butchering her character if they wanted, what with her being hating all the weird things happening because Nick is a Grimm.

And let's not talk about Adalind, who doesn't even regret all the stuff she did. And are we supposed to believe she's now "not evil"? Yeah, no.

Oh god I'm so glad I stopped watching this show. Poor Juliette.

And I had a feeling by the time I'd stopped that Adalind was turning into a writer's pet...

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree so much with all this.

There is so much character drama the writers didn't go for, that it boggles my mind. It seems instead of exploring themes and having the characters change and grow, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for the most clichéd ideas.

It's almost enough for me to write a Grimm AU that handles things how I would have done. *huffs*

Suffice to say, I never liked Juliette as a character until she got her new powers. I was hoping she and Nick would have some drama, but work things out (kind of like how Monroe and Rosalie had to go through the "different species" thing). I loved her kicking Adalind's butt. I cheered out loud! Then spent the rest of the season going "WTF" as she took the train to crazy town.

Adalind has always been a character I love to hate. I don't like her current possible redemption arc. And as many have said, it skeeves me out that they don't address the rape by deception thing. Consenting to sleep with someone you think is your partner ISN'T consent! Idiots...

/has a lot of feels about this

Can I just say that as a man, seeing this much honest acknowledgment of male rape survivors by a largely-female community really cheers me up? I probably have sampling error, having seen too many people willing to just write off male survivors as "Oh, that hardly ever happens anyway, he probably wanted it, you know what guys are like" or whatever. I'm maybe more moved than I should be that so many smart, honest people whose opinions about pop culture I respect are taking the issue seriously. Thanks.
