Just out of curiosity what's with the second one I never really got that. Mostly because in my experience I'm not really involved with my followers beyond responding occasionally.

Is there something wrong with people over 30?

Yeah, what the heck? I didn't realize there was something wrong with anyone over the age of 30.

Because it feels like my mom or my mom's friends are following me, trying to be "cool" with the kids. Like if I was out with friends and a 40 year old lady wanted to hang out with me, I'd have the same reaction. I'm 22, and I don't want to hang out with people who pay mortgages and have kids.

all i can say is have fun when you're 30 and fandom still

Oh...I guess.

Some people just follow blogs they think look cool, to be fair.

da

I'm the same age as you and that still strikes me as a weirdly immature thought process. Plus, there are a lot of people who are our age (or even younger) who have gotten married and become parents while there are many people years older who have done neither.

lol what

I'm the same age and I'd MUCH rather discuss fandom with an adult than some 14 year old or w/e

Do that many people on tumblr mention their age before following a blog? And is the level of interaction so high that it's equivalent to hanging out? Because I never got that impression.

I always saw it more as a concentrated fandom dump site where you can find blogs with things that interest you, I'm not sure I'd even notice someone's age unless it was all they talked about.

Perhaps the ayrt is on tumblr to find "cool" peers to look up to and needs to know what they are like irl. Me, I just like tumblr for the prettiness and commentary, age might roughly correlate with maturity of insight but nooooottt always.

"cool" with the kids

um

lol

you're a bit of a wanker

lol I'm going to be 30 this year and I don't have a mortgage or kids

22 is too old to be thinking of 30+ as your mom's age, you sound like an immature 13 year old

Re: Griping about tumblr

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
so a mere eight years above you is what 'mom tier' consists of?

pff, enjoy your fleeting fandom years!

I didn't say "too old for fandom." I said "too old to be my friend."

Why in the world would you think following someone on Tumblr because they occasionally post interesting shit equates to wanting to be friends?

That is embarrassingly immature and over invested.

"too old to be my friend."

way to tumblr wrong if you think you gotta be friends with everyone you follow/follows you

...Wow. As someone who's 26, and has friends significantly older than me because we went to school together, saying someone is "too old to be your friend" makes you sound like an immature child.

I follow people if they post the kind of content I like to reblog. Most of those people happen to be ten or more years younger than me (I'm 30). I'm not faking anything to try and be a cool kid, I honestly share those interests with them. I've followed people up to as old as 50 for the same reasons, it didn't even occur to me that anyone thought older bloggers had ulterior motives. But that's tumblr for you, always assuming the worst, sneakiest meanings about the most mundane actions.
