Yeah, there is definitely this gross undercurrent of "You HAVE to like trans people now, look how beautiful Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox are! Trans people aren't the hilarious transvestites you made fun of for years, they can be hot!" Yeah, well, it shouldn't matter whether someone is conventionally attractive or not, you should still treat them like a person.

And tbh, "tumblrinas" are the group most likely to point out these problems and agree with you.

Well, that depends where you go on tumblr, now doesn't it?

This is the problem with tumblr. There isn't one single tumblr. What you see depends almost entirely on who you follow. OP probably really IS only seeing people talking about her physical features. You can each have totally opposite experiences and have them both be valid and real.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. There is a wide spectrum of opinions on tumblr, but I honestly can't think of any other Internet hang-outs where people are likely to dissect social reactions and beauty standards surrounding Caitlyn Jenner. Certainly not reddit or 4chan or FB.

Depends on where you go on reddit. The women- and feminism-oriented subs have discussed it.

Some of that is less for shoving it at cis people and more trying to give kids hope. There's always been this fairly ugly narrative that the later you transition the worse off you are and you'll never be beautiful and you'll never 'pass', and certainly no normal person will ever love you only freaks with fetishes.

So it's kind of a catch 22 because you want to go both "Looks aren't everything, it's what's inside that counts!" but also "Yeah, you're allowed to want to look smokin' hot without being shamed for being a vain shallow piece of shit."

This is a very good point.

No. "Tumblrinas" are a pretty set group of people who behave like assholes in the name of social justice. Pretending every tumblr user equals "tumblrina" is like saying caring about social justice makes you an SJW.

It's hard to tell sometimes whether the term is being used as an all-encompassing anti-SJW reflex (ie "tumblrina PC feminist bullshit is ruining fandom/media waaah") or something that refers to people with specific opinions/behaviors.

da Yep, this. I'm often left wondering.
