I have to admit...I don't think it was unreasonable that Taylor got upset and assumed Nikki was calling her out. Technically in a way she WAS. But when confronted about it Nikki just pulled a "It's not you, it's society/voters" or some shit.

Taylor was very gracious in apologizing when...technically by all rights she didn't have to. She had a good reason to be upset.

....man I can't believe I'm taking Taylor Swift's side.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, while I agree that Nikki was, implicitly focusing on Taylor, I still think it was stupid as hell for Taylor to get involved.

Since Nikki didn't mention her by name, it was obvious that she would have plausible deniability. Also, given what Taylor writes about, framing her argument as "women bashing women" came across as laughably hypocritical.

She's not necessarily wrong, but she should have kept her mouth shut.

If I can be honest, as a raging Taylor Swift stan, I have to admit that things like this are where she does tend to come across as the stupidest.

More like what Taylor used to write about and now seems to be trying to make up for that by being maybe a little too vehement in insisting women must support each other always.

DA

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good point

Some of Taylor's career has been made out of passive aggressively vague referencing people who upset her.

How's it feel Taylor?

True. I suppose i'm just bothered because the bloggers are framing it as Nikki being right and acting like Taylor's just a "silly white girl" for being bugged by it.

Neither of them are innocent.

Gonna continue in my rigid policy of not paying attention to this controversy

(Not because I don't like the music or the singers involved)

(Just because it seems like a frustratingly stupid Internet controversy)

What happened?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much. Nicki got passed over this time, as opposed to previous times where she was actually in the nominees. It's not like they're snubbing her.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sadly Anaconda just wasn't that good of a video. Her pulling the "but it influenced culture!" bullshit just seems like sour grapes.

And I'm not even a Taylor Swift fan, but there's no way Nikki was not referencing Taylor's video in her comments.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
lol tru

Tumblrinas have been such wannabe activists about this.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I was surprised to see people siding with Nicki and praising Taylor for apologizing.
I feel like something went over my head because all I saw was Nicki throwing a Kanye type fit about not being the center of attention.

I don't keep up with music awards nor do I care about any of the artists involved, but Nicki Minaj is mad about being snubbed because of Anaconda? Did that video really deserve recognition? Why is she trying to make an issue out of it?

Everyone thought it was a parody of a song that used the words, "I like big butts" from the '90's. It was never gonna be taken seriously.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't even a parody. It was a glorified remix.

The video was nothing special -- so this is just Nicki being a sore loser.

And trying to pretend she represents bigger girls and is making strides for body positivity? Please. Her body is engineered eye candy. All the "fat" is in her boobs and butt. Boo hoo.

Honestly? I'm more annoyed at the fact that her music video with explicitly fascist imagery has been basically memory-holed by the Tumblr SJW stans.

1984 reference for the win! :D

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I couldn't believe how people were/are responding to this. Nicki was blatantly having a sore-loser snit, which in and of itself showed a tacky lack of maturity on her part. Then she mad a rude jab at Taylor Swift, presumably because Nicki is a bully and bullies tend to know who they can go after without fear of repercussions. And her comment WAS sexist, just as Taylor suggested it was: Nicki implied that Taylor didn't deserve the nomination and only got it because of her looks. SEXIST.

Taylor called her on it (fairly gently). Nicki then pulled that catty highschool bullshit of denying she'd insulted Taylor in the first place, even though she obviously had. But for some inane reason the media decided to largely side with Nicki, presumably because dogmatic, SJW-style outrage is generating more clicks these days than rational, moderate discussion.

I honestly think Taylor Swift responded with such grace and strength throughout this entire incident. If it had been me I probably would have ruined my career with twitter and tumblr outbursts calling Nicki Minaj the petty, self-interested, misogynist bully she is.

Also, while I don't judge Nicki Minaj for anything she chooses to do to her own body, it is pretty hypocritical that a woman who has very evidently enhanced her own curves through cosmetic procedures is going to turn around and try to blame her lack of success on her body type.

I would like to give this comment a standing ovation. Bravo!
