Who would actually admit they were...most people don't have the self awareness to look back and go "I bullied that kid."

I don't see why someone wouldn't if they were aware, unless they're still very young. What people do when they're what, 13? 14? and still a kid is generally not reflective of what they're like as adults

If they're not aware, it's not a matter of "admitting" anyway, they plain old don't know

mte. I feel like it's one of those basic lie detector tests. The vast majority of elementary school kids probably made fun of the developmentally disabled kid or joined in with their peers picking on the kid who peed his pants. Like, kids are little assholes.

well again, there's a question of what it actually means for someone to be a bully

nah see, "did you ever, at least once, laugh when someone made fun of a disabled kid" is different from "were you a bully"

in the same sense that "did you ever, at least once, laugh at a racist joke" is different from "were you a racist"

I'm getting the sense that people define bully as "the thing I'm not", and anything they personally did doesn't meet the criteria.

No, just because there's a definition that you disagree with, that doesn't mean that it's self-serving

I do think it's self-serving.

No, I don't think all kids were bullies. But most probably were, at some point. That kid who you only teased just a couple of times in elementary school probably thought you were a bully. No one wants to consider themselves to have been a bully, especially if they were victims of bullying themselves. I don't think very many people look back on things they did and said and high school and have the maturity to say, "Wow, so-and-so might've considered me a bully."

It's not just about stalking kids after class and stuffing them into lockers.

I don't consider most of the kids who teased me a couple times - or even frequently - bullies. It's not about whether someone considers me a bully, it's about what I understand bullying to consist of.

yeah the anon you're replying to is weird imo. they're insisting everybody admit they were a bully because someone else might have thought they were a bully, then insisting they think everyone is a bully, and using circular logic to prove themselves right

were you bullied? it doesn't work that way in my experience. some kids might see them as a faceless mass of "bully" im sure, but others can see that there are definitely ringleaders- bullies, direct followers- bullies as well, then everyone else who isn't a bully but isn't on your side, either... but they aren't the ones going after you or other people.

Have you considered that your personal experience is not everybody's? Or perhaps it's that you realize that you were indeed a bully when you were little, and are trying to tar everybody else with the same brush?

i'm getting the sense that you think high schools are made of 99% bullies for some really weird reason. was yours? mine wasn't.

i only argue from the pov that one action or a few scattered actions don't make a significant observable pattern. a coworker calls you a cunt out of nowhere once, maybe they're an asshole or making a bad joke. he keeps on doing it over and over even after you make it clear you want him to stop, he's definitely harassing you. it's important to make that distinction
