Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)Pick a few to talk about and why you like them.
Re: Pairings
Favorite one that I can't find enough of is Peter/Stiles. So wrong yet so right.
Oldest would be Vegeta/Bulma. I wish anime had better fanficcers.
Newest is probably Scully/Mulder and Mulder/Krycek. I am annoyed I have missed the heyday of X-Files fic. :(
Weirdest? Ummm. Bilbo/Azog or Steve/TJ Hammond I guess.
I am a multishipper that picks one character (Steve Rogers, Bilbo Baggins, Stiles, John Watson, Loki, etc) and ship them WITH EVERYONE.
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-08 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)I was big into Krycek (though I didn't watch too many episodes and X-files is still on my to-do list to watch - same for TWS). I actually got into Krycek/Skinner and Mulder/Skinner(/Krycek). I read some good fic for Skinner (who I otherwise wouldn't have looked at twice).
I'm like you in multi-shipping. I tend to pick a group of favorites and cross-ship them in all permutations (though I have favorite characters who do become bicycles, and favorite pairings).
(Azog does seem weirdly popular so I don't think you're alone. I've seen more Thorin/Azog though.)

Re: Pairings
Melkor/Mairon: I like it because I like the idea of villains having romantic relationships. And because something about these two makes every single version of them interesting to pair. There are so many different fic versions and I have not found a single version that I didn't find interesting. I don't know, just something about these two speaks to me.
Annatar/Celebrimbor: I like it because it is creepy. There is always a level of dubcon to even the most seemingly romantic fic. I like the idea of Sauron's seduction of Tyelpe being literal. I also like the idea of them being science bros together. And I like angst. I like the juxtaposition of hot sex and an apparent relationship with then how things turn out later.
Maedhros/Fingon: Romantic yet with a slight edge because of their familial relationship and their history together. Something about this relationship just works. Fingon's rescue of Maedhros just gives me so many feelings. And it makes Fingon's death even more tragic, which I like.
Beren/Luthien: I've actually gotten way more into them lately. I love how badass she is, how she's the stronger of the two. They are as close to romantic as the Silmarillion gets and yet their relationship is still filled with tragedy and horror. And it occurred to me that their first scene, the one that totally focuses on just her beauty, is from Beren's point of view. And he's seen so much horror and death and pain in his life and this is the first time he's seen beauty that isn't touched by that horror. So it totally makes sense. And this realization has made me fall in love with the pairing more than before.
Newest ship:
Celebrimbor/Finrod: I don't even know. I discovered a single fic and haven't been able to get it out of my head. They were both tortured to death by Sauron, so I like the idea of them bonding and healing together in Valinor. I don't know. It works for me.
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-08 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)I find, for the Valar, the characters I like to ship are Ulmo and Mandos. I switch up who I ship Mandos with but I find the idea of exploring him as a romantic partner to be interesting. IMO Ulmo belongs with Tuor or Cirdan, but I have a very strong OTP with Tuor/Voronwe. The strongest OTPs I have for the Valar are Ingwe/Manwe and Aule/Mahtan.
My OTPs for the ones you listed are Celebrimbor/Narvi, Beren/Thingol, and Finrod/Barahir. I'm afraid Maedhros/Fingon is a NOTP for me, one of the few. I was big into Maedhros/Maglor for awhile, and I like Maedhros/Bor or Maedhros/Amlach. I have just a ton of ships in Tolkien.
Re: Pairings
I like the Celebrimbor and Narvi friendship a lot. I love elf and dwarf friendships. I'm not sure if I ship it or not, but I do love them.
I can't do Maedhros/Maglor because I can't do sibling incest most of the time. I do love their brother relationship though.
I totally love Finrod/Barahir. Actually I probably love Finrod/nearly everyone. I have this headcanon where he's fairly pansexual and completely up for having a good time with whoever.
I don't think I've ever actually ship any of the other valar. I'm not entirely interested in them. Mandos and Manwe are probably my two favorites, though.
I could probably read a whole lot of pairings for this fandom though. I only have some active ships, but I just tend to love exploring this world. I only have a very few Notps (and only one big one, Mairon/Aule).
Re: Pairings
Newest: Emil/Lalli from Stand Still, Stay Silent. I've only read up to Chapter 3 so far, but I like their interaction a lot, and the pairing has a lot of things that I enjoy (biggest one is language barriers. Fun!)
Oldest: Hektor/Andromache as they're portrayed in the Iliad - I haven't read anything else with them. I had strong feelings about it ever since I read it ages ago, and that hasn't changed much since. But it's hard to beat a classic.
Weirdest: Well, since we have a Nelvana secret today, I might as well admit that I ship Nelvana/Wonder Woman. :D Though I guess that isn't so much "weird" as just "incredibly obscure". I think they would go great together, though!

(Anonymous) 2015-08-08 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Pairings
Some of the ships I realise I still love a lot though. Vaughn/Sabrina from Harvest Moon Islands of Happiness and Sunshine Islands (and Frantic Farming, which I actually liked a great deal) is still pretty much perfect, even though the shipping fanbase apparently consists solely of me, and I've been shipping Phoenix/Franziska from Ace Attorney for years, so I think it's about time I wrote a longfic for them, haha.
AA has so many great ships I like though! I actually like all of the popular ships like Phoenix/Edgeworth, Phoenix/Maya, and Klavier/Apollo, which is not my OTP only by dint of Klavier not appearing as often as I'd like in DD ;_; I'm cool with pretty much any ship you can think of for this fandom though my favourite is still very much Blackquill/Fulbright. Another ship I've liked for a long time and need to write more fic for, but I kind of fell out of fandom when teagueful/bludhavens faded from fandom too.
Something new I've started shipping recently is Amir/Sanjay from Harvest Moon A New Beginning. I adore Sanjay to pieces - probably the only fictional character I like more is Lord Vetinari from Discworld, but I bet some of you guys already guessed that - and I'd like any decent fic with him in it tbh. There's no complete Amir/Sanjay fic that I can find so I'm trying to figure out the dynamic for myself (last time I did that was about 10 years ago for Hibari/I-Pin from KHR! - I recently looked this ship up and it turns out my sucky dynamic has been largely adopted by newer shippers :o), but I do like guy/guy's assistant (or equivalent) ships a lot already so I'm going on quite happily by myself.
Favourite is still Vetinari/Drumknott. I signed up for the idfic bang and I am having a blast with my dumb little fic. I probably won't post it to ao3, just my own journal (the Disc fandom can be so judgemental nowadays haha), but I think I might write more idfic to flex my writing muscles in the future.
Re: Pairings
Old fave - Snape/Harry or Draco/Harry: Fandom does these two ships as enemies to friends to lovers the best of any fandom I've been in. Enemies to friends to lovers is one of, if not my favorite, relationship trope. Ngl, I also like the teacher/student thing between Snape/Harry too. I like a bit of an imbalance in my ships sometimes.
Weirdest - that I legit ship? Probably that Brother/Sister in the Folgers coffee comercial? Maybe? I want to read more fic for that ship. I read everything on AO3 like two times. It's part of the magic of the meme that enamored me to it, and part I just have a thing for pairings that are crack-y and meme-y. (See my AO3, lol.)
Re: Pairings
Newest would probably be Parker/Hardison/Eliot as I've been working through Leverage this year(still not done with it yet, but damn do I love them in one big OT3 ball).
My oldest is definitely Bulma/Vegeta, I've been shipping that for so long and always will tbh.
My weirdest I'd probably Todd the Wraith/Jennifer Keller from SGA, started out as a joke then ended up legit shipping it. Oops.
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-08 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)Oldest: Jason/Elisa from Gargoyles. Elisa is an amazing character and I really liked Jason's arc. I thought they had chemistry on screen and, at the time, I couldn't quite bring myself to ship a gargoyle (or didn't realize I'd be allowed to).
Weirdest: Mr. Tumnus/grown!up Lucy/Trumpkin from Narnia movies. I love Lucy's relationship with these two. McAvoy and Peter Dinklage really turned me onto their characters but I need Lucy grown up to enjoy it.
Favorite: This one's hard since I have so many. Two I'll throw out there are Dean/Cas from SPN and Greg/Gil from CSI. I really got hooked on Cas from his intro season. I liked the idea of him saving Dean but also being very alien and hard. Dean is my fandom bicycle. I just ate up all the Dean/Cas moments in the earlier seasons and the fuck-ups since haven't changed that.
For Greg/Gil, I love how they interact on the show. They have the right blend of similar and different to feel like they could work. And I love May/December romances.
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Oldest: DANG. Umm...I think that's got to be Picard/Crusher, that was my first real ship ship. And I still adore it now. I've heard there's some books I should read if I want more of them? The Star Trek library is so vast and confusing I don't really know where to start, haha. (Though I have a handful of ST novels I love to death. I even have the audiobook of Q-In-Law.)
Weirdest: Oh, I have lots of these. I think my weirdest one's got to be a mix-up I had when I was a kid-- when I was playing Link to the Past, for some reason I got it in my head that the actual maiden in Blind's hideout (as opposed to the "maiden" that was Blind in disguise) was blind herself, and I really liked the idea of Link being with her? I think I sort of mixed up the maiden and the disguise and formed a totally new character in my head, haha. But it was so sweet in my imagination!
Favorites: This is hard because my ship list is...extensive. But I guess I'd call my top five, in no particular order, 1.) Cloud/Aeris from Final Fantasy VII, 2.) Holmes/Watson, 3.) Jade/Nephry from Tales of the Abyss (I think this counts as a weird one, too!), 4.) Makoto/Ami from Sailor Moon, and 5.) Allen/Hitomi from Vision of Escaflowne. There's a tonnnnnn more, but these always seem to sneak back and punch me in the face with feelings every so often.
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)Oldest: Ned/Chuck from Pushing Daisies. I shipped them from the pilot when it aired and I still ship them now. I find it fascinating that their love literally defies death. They're so sweet and I really liked Lee and Anna's on screen chemistry. It's a classic (forensic) fairytale. Canonically, I'd love to see their relationship develop more in a complex way if the show wasn't cancelled.
Weirdest: The Luteces from Bioshock Infinite, given that they are two sides of the same coin, so to speak. But I find their ubiquitous nature and nonchalant demeanor endearing.
Newest: Will/Riley from Sense8. I tend to be fond of opposites attract type of ships. (Kala/Wolfgang is a stronger example but I digress). Particularly there's one person who seems very quiet and hides a somber past, yet somehow remains resilient and the other who reaches out and doesn't give up on them. Plus the fact that they're in the same cluster and share each other's thoughts and emotions really gets to me.
Now onto crossover pairings...
Oldest: Knives Chau/Pavel Chekov from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World/Star Trek (2009). Despite the different time eras, they are the youngest out of their respective groups, as well as the same age in the movies. In a way, they are opposites: Knives is energetic while Pavel is more.. down to earth. Somehow they balance each other out.
Weirdest: Tadashi Hamada/Elsa of Arendelle from Big Hero 6/Frozen. They are from completely different times,
but perhaps they could meet in the afterlifebut there's time travel. Once again, they're somewhat opposites: vivacious/reserved, science/magic, etc. But both care about their families and have created sentient life, which is unbelievable.Newest: Hiro Hamada/Riley Andersen from Big Hero 6/Inside Out. Both are from the same city (albeit alternate versions) and they're within the same age group. Of course, given that they're too young to be shipped in a way like the other ships I've mentioned before, I can imagine them becoming good friends over time, although they tend to be competitive and snarky at times, whether in building robots or playing hockey. (This is the closest I have to a toy ship. I hope I clarified that.)
Re: Pairings
(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 04:09 am (UTC)(link)Newest is from the book that I'm currently reading (and am only halfway through), Caroline Stevermer's A College of Magics, and I am definitely hardcore feeling the Jane/Faris. I don't know why I even mention it, since I am pretty sure that no one here has even read the book, and there's no fandom, and I'm fairly confident it's not going to be canon (because it's f/f and there's a character who's very obviously going to end up marrying Faris). But it's nice and fun and they're both good characters.
I don't consider any of my ships weird because why would I. But one obscure one that I was just thinking of was Ana Khouri / Ilya Volyova from the Alastair Reynolds novel Revelation Space, because it turns out that immortal cyborg Russian space pirates and time-displaced assassins traveling aboard a malfunctioning cyber-gothic starship fighting in an almost certainly doomed attempt to stop the extinction of the human race despite the deaths of almost all their friends and colleagues and the fact that they're being haunted by an alien ghost are extremely my shit. And also they have a really good sort of... "Both of us are cold, unfeeling motherfuckers but at the end of the day we've survived an enormous amount of shit, and the two of us are the only people who could even conceivably understand where the other one has been, so even though I won't admit it I actually do feel a lot of affection for you and will go to extraordinary lengths to save your life" kind of a dynamic going on. Anyway, I've never seen it discussed anywhere except I talked about it once on here with thene, I think, who doesn't post here anymore, and it got jossed with extreme prejudice in the next book, but what can you do.
(I don't actually ship exclusively from books, it just seems that way) (Root/Shaw forever)
